Olympic Track & Field - aka Athletics thread

Yep, he looked to tire right towards the end. Not surprising given the amount of sprinting (or at least very fast jogging) he's been doing.
He's sleeping in and living off junk food. If he took it seriously he'd be smashing the 400m also - I think I heard a commentator speculate that he might be planning to try it.

Back off she's mine! :p

She gives great interview.
Doesnt she just! :D

I liked Mo Farrah earlier too, obviously completey different circumstances but he was heartfelt and good to listen to.

I hate the Amereican style rehearsed platitude stained interviews  Our male sprinters do this and I loathe it.

***TASHA'S ON DRUGS!!!!!***:mad::mad:

Just thought Id get in and say it now, so the usual suspects dont have to.

;):D

Oh good job Tasha!:D She is so lovely.

We are seriously going to challenge on the 4x4 relay if Lee McConnell can get her shit together.

Go British Girls!

Will be tough to beat Jamaica and the US, Bronze is a goer though.

Can't wait for the relays

2 disqualified from that final, spearman and the dutch antilles bloke who came 2nd , running out of their lanes:( both were in medal positions at the end

bolt seemed to be working harder in that one - into a head wind and that,

which should please chris akubusi:rolleyes:

One minute you're all fed up because some people encourage you to leave your jingoistic comfort zone for a while by mention drugs, now you think it's okay to try and take the piss.

The first did you no credit, the second is a little pathetic.

You might be better advised to concentrate on waving your little plastic flags, and wrapping yourselves in those union jack comfort blankets.

 you what?

Good grief mate....what's with the attack on nationalism? I personally have enjoyed and cheered all the winners regardless of where they are from...I couldn't give two hoots how many golds GB get. I do though appreciate how hard those athletes must have worked to get where they are today, where they are from is irrelevant. :)

*backs away slowly*

Yeah I heard Akabusi on 5live this morning. He actually sounded really angry that Bolt jogged to the line in the 100m. I think he thought it was taking the piss out of less talented athletes. Jealousy maybe?

he wrote about it in the guardian - I put a link on this thread somewhere

really can't understand akabusi, bolt is an great runner, and his celebration was spontaneous, he knew he'd won, spo why not big it up, fuck me if i was ever in that position, i'd big it up, biggest stage in the world...

Ive not seen Kris's piece Marty, I will go and have a trawl through the thread for it, but I could see why someone like him, who worked hard and sacrificed, and always gave of his best would be frustrated with Bolt.

What Bolt did in the 100m final goes against everything which all runners and sprinters especially, are trained to do from the moment they start competing as juniors- you run through the line, you dip for the line, you do your best.

While the 100m was a truly spectacular victory, it wasnt till the 200m final that Bolt really showcased his talent; beating a world class field while running at 60% is mightily impressive, but has to be an anathema to former athletes like Kris.

Of course at that level most athletes are within hundreths of seconds of each other, and so have to go 'eyeballs out' to win or to get a place ahead of their competitors. Usain's talent and the manner of his victories has caused the sport to reassess itself in many ways.

i get akubusi's point, but bolt knew he'd won the 100, 30 m from the line, he still broke the world record, he's 21, he was on the biggest sporting stage, i'd have done the same (at 43 my chances of doing the same seem to have gone though)
