Olympic Track & Field - aka Athletics thread

Just saw the latest 200m race and there was a woman in a Kathy Freeman all-in-one get up who wasn't doing too well (though came 5th eventually) - at first I though "well if you're going to wear such a silly outfit at least be good!", but then I realised she's probably a muslim *

*at me, not her, before you start :hmm: :p

If the Olympics final isn't a good time to set an all-conquering world record then when is?

Hey I'm not that bothered about it, it just niggles me seeing him not doing as well as we all know he could

Oh well no brit in the 200m womens final
Does sport age people? How old was that girl? I think lots of these athletes look older than their fatter, unfit normal human counterparts!

Hahahaha! Roqaya Al Ghassra :D - She's a cracking Bahraini athlete. She looked terribley disappointed not to qualify. Considering she has to cover up and wear so much, she did really well. Ive mentioned her on the 'Countries which bar female athletes' thread.
I dont think she would be able to wear a Kathy Freeman suit as that was skin tight, hers is much looser. They need to find a better solution which is culturally apropriate and which doesnt disadvantge her to this extent. She may as well have been running in a duffle coat.

I dont know what her coaching arrangements are, but she's a fantastic talent- if she had state of the art training and support she could totally qualify for finals.

It will be. Just not into tiny pieces. Yet. He knows what he's doing.

I was hoping she would go through - she had a very strong showing in the heats and looks a good athlete.
