Olympic Track & Field - aka Athletics thread

Coming second to Isinbayeva is like winning a gold imo.

I'd imagine there's more pressure on the Chinese competitors to win golds of all the nations.

What a dickhead. WTF has *he* won? She looked crushed and didnt know what to do with herself.

Isn't she the athlete who has only been doing the pole vault for a short time, a few years? I'm sure I heard the commentator say that during the awarding of medals.:hmm: 4 years ffs and already an olympic silver....he reminds me of a competative parent, twat.

In the article linked to above it said he spotted her playing basketball. Jesus, no pleasing some people  (at the coach obv!)

Michael Rimmer- Im not familiar with him. He did really well and looks like he has a decent 'kick' as well.

Michael Rimmer. He's been on the fringes of good things for a while now. Could be a good time to pick for your big breakthrough!

L_C, do you mind keeping it to your other thread please. Seriously, its hectoring, montonous, irritating and quite rude actually.

Mo Farah in the 5000m heats now. He's not brilliant brilliant but he's a nice mover and he's the best male distance runner we've had for years.

I like Craig Mottram of Australia. He's such an improbable distance runner and he looks like he's just a bit of a lump, but he's a wicked runner...

I just wish Bolt would stop showboating at the end of the race.

He's not just racing against the other people on the track but against all the people in years to come. He should try to set a world record that will last for ages. He could have gone half a second faster in that 100 metres final but as it is he's only moved the WR up a little bit.

It's much cooler to set a WR that stays on the board for years - like Colin Jackson (who held it for about 10 years) or Jonathan Edwards who still holds the triple jump record he set in 1995.

On Your Marks

The way that dude says On Your Marks at the start of the track events has to be one of teh coolest things ever about these games.

It sounds like he's an ancient martial arts grandmaster in some Kung-Fu film. I reckon he sounds more Japanese than Chinese too.

I think he's taking the Sergei Bubka approach to world records, keep moving it down, as opposed to up in Bubka's case, little by little, meet by meet. However, I think it's incredible that someone looks capable of running a sub 9.5 second 100 metres and would love to see him do it before he gets injured or something.
