Olympic Track & Field - aka Athletics thread

As 10 seconds on Google tells us, Bolt has never been near an American college.

He's been in the top five since 2005 - I don't know what the consequences of that are for regular out of competition testing but you'd think they'd be serious.

cor, you can use google:cool: -

Jessie - whilst what you're saying is very valid, could you take it to it's own thread rather than disrupting this one? Then this can stay about the athletics and the issues you raise addressed/discussed properly please :)

What we've been trying to say, but it seems jessies just spamming for the sake of it. Which takes away any credibility jessiemay otherwise have.

No aqua.

This is a protest that is very close to my heart.

That's like sending me to a "protest zone" fifteen kilometers away.

I don't believe you would support that and I don't believe "urban75" would either.

At least I fuckin' hope so.

My protest has been non-abusive and if the "Ra Ra Ra" brigade don't like it and want it shunted away, then I suggest they question their own moral values - it would seem that they mirror those of the CCP.

This is serious.

People are being tortured as a direct result of all this fuckin' Ra Ra Ra.

Sorry I don't agree that this one thread IS the right place. I think what you're saying is important, and needs to be discussed, but as I see it this thread is about the people, rather than the whole system. Let's not detract from that.

Start another thread. No one is asking you shunt it away, in fact the opposite, we're saying you have a very valid arguement and that it needs to be separated from this one thread. NOT taken away totally.

i'm hoping for a clean sweep for the jamaicans - 100 and 200 and relays - men and women (they won't win the 400 unless they can get bolt to win leg:cool:)

So am I.

except my family will go mental - again.:D:D

Love 'em. Jamaica is the closest they'll get to st lucia in the olympics:D

Aqua is there any chance of tidying this thread up please? The relevant posts can be copied there or something? Purlease?

Just like the Chinese leadership.

Sweep it under the carpet and Ra Ra Ra!

NO aqua, don't!

*goes to bed in pain*

No I'm too busy to go moving threads around. I'm sorry if you think I'm trying to stop your discussion jessie - I'm really not. I think in here it's in the wrong place, it's not going to get the attention it should get. That's all :)

Not totally.

Only fifteen kilometers.

You (generic) and, of course, the CCP win.

There is a direct equivalecy here.

I'm not saying what he's saying isn't important. I'm saying I don't think this thread is the right place for such a discussion.

And you're entitled to your view of course. I don't agree with it that's all.

And also I don't think that's the thrust of the rest of the objections. I don't think he's out of order but he isn't chiming with the tone some people have decided they want. Not particularly something I like to see policed.

It's a shame Bolt's performance cannot just be enjoyed. This is someone the whole world of sprinting has been talking about since he was 15. He's special. He's worked out how to do something nobody has done before - be a tall athlete with long legs and get those legs up and moving fast enough to compete in the shortest sprints.

This is a very different case from that of Ben Johnson, for example, who was an ordinary athlete who suddenly improved. Bolt's been destined for greatness ever since his balls dropped.

And the argument that nobody could be that much better than the rest without drugs is nonsense. Jessie Owens blew away the competition in 1936. Bob Beaman won the long jump in 1968 with a jump that was way further than anyone had ever done before. It can be done, especially if, as Bolt has, you've found an edge by working out a way to do something nobody else has been able to do. Just watch - the next generation of sprinters may all be tall and rangy.

Not trying to police, just trying to make sure important issues are raised at a broader level that gets the attention it deserves. Its my opinion. That's all :)

No thats not the case at all.

Its the derailing when the thread was supposed to be about athletics. There's nothing stopping intelligent discussion of drug use, nothing at all.Its part of athletics, whether we want it to be or not.

But this thread is not the place for a political platform. I want to discuss athletics, not bloody politics. If I did, I'd go to another forum.

How many times must we raise this point before the spammers get the message?
