It seems a bit unfair the fuckwit wasn't disqualified for that. He could have done some serious damage to the British rider.
Apparently the judges are still looking at it, so he might still get disqualified.

So apparently the British guy got back on his bike and finished, whereas the Danish guy just stormed off. Meaning only two Danes finished. So surely that means GB won?

It would be the biggest lol of the games if that dick got kicked out...

Cycling: Thomas Atkins is watching a different broadcast to me. On his telly, regarding the men’s team pursuit heat with the crash, “they’re saying that the Danes would be recorded as the winners of the pursuit, but they’re in danger of being disqualified for riding into the back of the opposition (and, presumably, being berks about it afterwards). I’d be surprised if GB got to ride in the final here.”

There’s still no time recorded for either team by the IOC. But one team actually finished the race, the other didn’t, and one team caused the crash. Still waiting, even Kieran Pender at the velodrome has no word yet.

Danish are arguing they already made the catch..
The rule is:

"3.2.081 A team is caught when the opposing team (at least 3 riders riding together) arrives at or within a distance of one metre of it."

I just woke up so haven't seen the incident and no idea whether or not this applies in this case.

Conversely it would also be bizarre if GB made the gold medal final considering they were so shit yet NZ, who would have broken the world record in their heat would still be racing for bronze

He was staring at his boots, the Brit was way off the pace. He just slammed straight into the back of him then hurled abuse down at him while he was lying on the ground then continued all the way back to his little dressing room throwing helmets etc. Not very edifying.

Being an arsehole doesn't disqualify you from winning gold medals though.

In other sports that would be classified as 'dangerous play' and would be a red card. It's the equivalent of putting in a tackle at someone's knee in the football surely.

What the fuck is even going on with all these track events? It's not like road races where you can just have it on in the background for a couple of hours... :D

I tried watching Manon of GCN's breakdown last night, just made me more confused.

It's just going to get progressively more bugnuts with Keirin, Omnium and Madison isn't it? :D

Looks like a poorly written rule. I'm surprised this has never come up before (cycling's not my sport but it's very ambiguous). The Danes seem a classy lot, almost disqualified before it even started for wearing some kind of illegal tape on their legs.

On the below point, Guy Wilkinson emails in.

“Looks like 3 cyclists in a group have to be within 1 metre of the caught rider – whether this is 1st or last is unclear. UCI regulations 3.2.081: “A team is caught when the opposing team (at least 3 riders riding together) arrives at or within a distance of one metre of it.”

I’d say that definitely means any of the riders in the front team. But the front Dane crashed into that rider, meaning the other two couldn’t have been within a metre. They were at least a bike length behind. They then passed that rider when he was sliding across the ground.

What's the one where they start as slowly as possible and loiter around waiting for their opponent to start cycling first?

Ha, really? I think there was a GCN spotlight on him/his team achieving shit outside the mainstream not that long ago... pre-covid I guess...

Seems apt, Bigham sounds like a Danelaw name. Work out of Derby too.
Well, he seems to have done better than the Secret Squirrel Squad and all their dosh.

Or, is the first rider of the 3, by being part of the team, sufficient for the catch. It seems Boardman thinks it is, while Wiggins doesnt!

Sprint. They do that because neither wants to be in the lead at that point, ideally you ride in the slipstream of the guy in front to save energy before passing them off the final turn.

Doesn’t always work out that way of course.

I think the 'catch' should be irrelevant anyway since the Danish dick could have ended that guy's career by sheer idiocy

The other thing they have to decide is whether Britain gets to go for bronze. Their time would have been so woeful anyway that another team would have qualified to race against NZ.

The British guy was being a dick by not pulling off the racing line even though he was done.

He wasn't 'done', just slower than the guys behind him and was entitled to keep the racing line. Two of the Danish riders saw him and veered off, it was just the little prick at the front who wasn't looking.
