Officers caught on CCTV punching Darren Grace -

"When they tried to treat his wounds he became violent towards them - pinching and biting two officers' legs.

Officers acting in self-defence then delivered open handed blows to Mr Grace.

Both the paramedics and the hospital refused to treat him at the time because of his behaviour.

Mr Grace made a complaint to Merseyside Police about the incident although he said he had no recollection of the events."

sounds a bit of a prick to be fair

He'd already been pinned to the ground, & then punched in the head, whilst sporting a head injury & a stab wound!

'Both the paramedics and the hospital refused to treat him at the time because of his behaviour.'

Not too sure where Sky get that crap from, as anyone in the medical profession well knows that head injuries can & do lead to casualties becoming agitated & aggressive.

I take it DRINK that you didn't see the video of this incident? But in your eyes he's a prick? Maybe they should have shot him instead?

mmm, don't know about him being a prick, he was injured and the way he reacted is actually pretty normal under the circumstances. The police (and also paramedics) should have known that and should have tried to calm him down gently, but knowing the police they were probably shouting at him to calm down, which would have the opposite effect...

of course they won't face missconduct charges. You can twist anything in the favour of the police if you close your eyes hard enough. Well done the police, a man who had been stabbed was in no doubt very lucky for you to have "helped" him.

Bunch of cunts.

Yes ,but,as a health care proffesional your expected to be smacked around without complaint:mad:.Police are not, hit one of them their going to hit back dealing with an agitated& aggresive patient is never going to be easy .I've been punched and kicked and bitten by patients mostly because their confused. The patient survived so I'm not going to think the police did any serious wrong.I'm sure it could be handled better though.

Full CCTV here

Its not the full CCTV though, is it? The video breaks after 0:13 (ish) and by the time it resumes they are rolling around on the grass with him, its almost useless in determining why they acted as they did.

So five forceful punches to the head is justifiable & acceptable plod practise, when someone has a head injury?

Which training book is that out of?

it's out of the "are you a complete cunt? wanna be a copper?" training book. :)

why is there a bit missing from that video?

This is a reasonable point, in this particular incident. I'm not saying that 5 or 6 obvious punches to the face of a man already clearly well restrained is in anyway "reasonable force", but I can just picture D-B banging on and on about "context" and how the video shown in this case doesn't seem to have a "before". Not a defense of the coppers actions, but it does seem to have had a section wilfully cut out, which quite clearly directly preceded the brutal force used by the police.

I'm bored with this now, we did this discussion to death and the officers lack of punishment was spot on predicted. There must be newer instances of police bashing the fuck out of people and getting filmed than this to discuss?

Israeli police abduct an 11 year old boy. Maybe he threw a pebble?

Fuck the police.

as the bloke does'nt remember it and no serious injuries were inflicted by the police.
seems shit but using force is always going to look shit.

the bloke was so out of it to get him treatment took a lot of force.
he does not remember much of the incident obviously because of the state he was in. getting outraged on behalf of a stranger who got patched up because the police strapped him to a stretcher against his will.

A bit of tasering should have been deployed to calm him down. I think live rounds were not necessary in this case before treatment was administered. Merseyside police showed there usual restraint and proportionality of response.

It was from the local paper. I'm sure there's a better video if you want to look for one. :)

I believe the onus would be on the part of the police to provide evidence that such treatment were needed to meted out in such a manner.

The guy needed help FFS.

U.K. Police, Punch and Tazer x3 suspect on the ground 14th June 2009

These are not police anymore, these are soldiers.

He presented a clear threat to the officers safety and can thank himself lucky that the Bobbies handled him with proportionality and didnt use live rounds on his head.
