IMO the contents of my consciousness is continuous with the rest of my consciousness, but not with yours, so there are two of us. But alot of the other stuff which we consider as part of us is not strictly just us. Is this a consensus.

I guess the key point I was trying to make with all this was the 'maintained' bit of that. It's fairly clear that the self doesn't exist independent of how it's formed - anyone could tell you that - but the fact that it also needs to be constantly maintained by the input from the 'social space' is what I'm driving at and I couldn't think of anyone who had described the self in those terms.
