Netherlands v Costa Rica (Quarter Final) Saturday 5th July 2014

Nope, dad's the rugby fan.

I was obviously being a bit flippant with the mighty sweeping statement, but there does seem to be a general culture in football of keeping things 'simple' or retaining the staus quo, at times to the detriment of the game.

Football's simple rules are one of the reasons it's the most popular game in the world, and not just played by a few anal retentive public schoolboys in the ex colonies.

If the Dutch do win please let it be Sloth who scores

I wouldn't disagree and have often argued along similar lines, I just think the current advantage rule is a bit nonsensical and actually contributes to the prevalence of diving and simulation in the game.

e2a: also, "simple" and "popular" are not necessarily the be all and end all. The X Factor is simple and popular, do you really want football to be the X Factor of sport?! :D ;)

Argh! C'mon, give your teammates a chance with a decent ball! (Says the man who can't play a decent ball anything further than 15 yards :hmm: )
