Season 2 of Sweet Tooth has landed :)

Played the the first 30 seconds of the first episode and stopped to watch the last fifteen minutes of S1, because there doesn’t seem to be a recap of S1, and other than knowing I much enjoyed the first season, I recall next to fuck all about it :D

ETA: just checked initial reviews. Massively favourable reception across the board, it seems. When even the polar opposites that The Guardian and Telegraph tend to be give something similar rave reviews, the omens are good :)

Two episodes left of The Night Agent. Fucking hell it's good. Immediate likenesses to Bodyguard were noted - and Gabriel Basso is a deadringer for Richard Madden - but as it played out it felt more like 24, which I still think it the most addictive show I've ever seen.
It's great...just finished season 1 and enjoyed it all.

Two interesting articles on Beef I just came across this morning

This is FULL of spoilers, so don't read if you haven't watched Beef and intend to watch it

I gave up on Beef after two episodes. Is it ever more than two people being mean to each other?

I think I really enjoyed the first one and saw the trailer for this last night so may give it a go.

Like you, I can't really remember much about it.

3 EPS in and tis good stuff
We're on 2 episodes from the end of The Diplomat - is the PM based on Boris? The American President is clearly Biden - but instead of having a Rishi archetype it seems they went for Boris, which feels less "accurate" - I mean, they are talking about the Russia and Ukraine's war a lot - so they are keeping to some real timeline there. Then again I guess Rishi wouldn't be so eager to do what they're about to do...

The "threesome" aspect is unnecessary IMO, although I found the marriage falling apart and they staying together for politics more realistic, this extra dimension just seems to be there for titillation... Even more, a foursome, because of the sister... Just... why?

Hang on, when the war started Boris was still PM  It seems like so long ago!

There is a recap. Should have played automatically unless you clicked on it or had auto play engaged but decided to watch it later (then it will assume you have already watched it).
You can select it in the episode list.

I watched the recap and wondered if I had actually watched the second half of the first season at all. . . my brain is really not working.

Glad to hear this (sort of). I bailed 10 minutes before the end of episode one for the same reason. . . . I thought, "is this going to be about two people being increasingly mean / horrible to each other? I'm not sure I can bear it" . . . I am only 'glad' because it looks like I made the right call.
I'm sick of people being horrible to each other and I don't need to see more of it on TV for 'entertainment purposes'.

Glad it's not just me; I really struggle to remember previous seasons, even of shows I've thoroughly enjoyed and it's always quite jarring when there's been months (sometimes years) between seasons to get back into them.

I don't really like this move back to weekly release of episodes for the same reason. I don't totally binge seasons (i.e. watch back to backs over a weekend) but I do tend to watch an episode per night or every other night, so if something's on weekly release I wait until the whole lot is out and watch it then.

Made it to the end of E2, ditched it for the same reasons

Yeah me too. As a family we probably only manage one or two episodes 30 min episodes of something per night.
We will do half a Sweet tooth every other day (the one hour selection is usually a mix of about three or four things we are currently watching as a family).
At the moment it's a couple of Japanese shows, Sweet Tooth and Brooklyn 99 (I'm not a fan, but my daughter is and it's only 25 minutes).

If there's no official recaps, YouTube normally has a variety of them...

yes it is more. If it was one dimensional then it wouldn't be such a hit, right? It has layers... It's about repressed anger, dealing with having to fit into a mould and that sort of existential angst. There's also some class politics in there.

Much narrative? I like narrative

Somehow it didn’t play for me. Though to be fair, my memory is so shit tgst nothing short of a 15-minute recap would be of much help.

Somehow it didn’t play for me.
I saw it flash up and try to play just as it showed up as a new item, but I moved my cursor (or whatever) away as I didn't want to watch sweet tooth at that moment. When I did actually select the show, the recap option had gone. I had to look it up in the episode list.
I think it must have been an annoying netflix quirk where just hovering over the show triggered the recap.

Started The Nurse.

The series is based on a book written by Kristian Corfixen, titled The Nurse: The True Story Behind One Of Scandinavia's Most Notorious Criminal Trials. The book documents the story of a real nurse named Christina Aistrup Hansen, who was arrested in March 2015 for intentionally killing patients in southern Denmark
It's setting up to be very good.

Watched a couple of old music documentaries this week.

The first was Creedence Clearwater Revival's concert at the Albert Hall in 1969 (not released until now), the second was Glastonbury Fayre, about the hippy mecca's 1971 festival.

In addition to the music (which really was better in the old days, never mind what those awful young people tell you) a key point here is the bits of social history you get with these things. A large part of the Glasto flick is taken up with bald clerics celebrating the Catholic mass - this after more than scene of topless biker chicks riding pillion on their biker boyfriend's hog, or naked hippies rolling around in mud. "The church has to be where the people are", apparently.

It is sociologically significant that you had a subculture that prized, and sought out, experiences of an ecstatic nature, altered states of consciousness.

The CCR people were not among that subculture: despite the shaggy hairdos, they were shorthaired on the inside. And despite all the Deep South imagery in their music, they were actually California boys seed breed and generation - and veterans of the coast guard and navy reserve as well. The music still holds up, though, fifty years on.

It's all subjective, really.

Recently came to the conclusion that there's been no good music since Robert Johnson.

And annoyingly, there's not many docs about the blues on the streaming services.

I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore - a terrible title, but i really enjoyed this film - a dark/awkward/absurd comedy and vengeance thriller. I laughed from about 10 seconds in to the end - from awkward social observations to splatter violence. I also thought the main characters of Ruth and Tony were totally realistic in their frustrations, nervous rage, and oddness, and i really liked the way it subverted some of the tropes and gender norms of the thriller genre.

"I don't feel at home in this world any more"

A film I really enjoyed last night. Definitely recommended.

Films - , I don't feel at home in this world anymore
Yes, this film. Watch it.
