My friend got Karl Marx’s Capital Volume I for Christmas

Although Karl Marx’s books are not the easiest to read, I firmly believe that my friend is going to learn a lot from the book and will hopefully want to read the next two volumes of Capital.

Has anyone else read Capital? When I read it in the 1970s it changed my life forever.

It cemented for me my political views and worldview and made me come to fully understand and realise the world I lived in and unfortunately still do (and it’s even worse now).

A great book. In fact, I can’t even think of one of Karl Marx’s books or Friedrich Engels’ books that I would describe as “bad”.

I find it difficult to value W.H. Smith, peculiar though it undoubtedly is.

our wh Smith in town is in what I think is a former church, and feels weird and wrong on the staircase.
Independents all the way - this one is on my To Visit list, in the middle of Whitby (which had it's own weirdness vortex when I visited for a bit this year, and fell in love with the town again).
