Working their butts off to get the kid through high school, I expect, what with amiable hard-working hubby at the age where he's unlikely to get a job ever again, constantly screwing up his face, throwing rejection letters in the waste paper basket and running his fingers through his well-receded hairline, her mother's medical bills, and the son on dialysis.
