Moors murderer Brady had access to vulnerable teens in jail

I read this earlier and posted it on the paedophile thread. This bit I found particularly grim for all that it says about attitudes to lads in borstal, still legally children but defo not regarded as such. I'd extend these attitudes out to working class kids generally rather than just the ones who get locked up.

Yep, put me in mind of the police attitude to the young victims in Rotherham etc., contempt for young working class people.

Be interesting to see how far this goes.

The State sometimes tacitly admits that part of the point of prison is to trap people in an enclosed space with monsters. We (as a society) don't debate this very often.

Seems to me that the biggest bastards have the easiest time of it in prison. I feel like that's probably the exact opposite of what we should be aiming for.

I remember being a kid and "borstal" being a word that was spoken about with very dark undertones.

That's their incentive to stay inside (or at least not be too careful about being sent back), and keep doing what they're meant to do.
