There's actually a vocal minority on the Island that want to close all of the lines, some even saying that they don't contribute to attracting the tourists and visitors ...

Will do - and copied to some other heavyweight ex railway staff....!

Wtf, LoL !

That's really inept ...

Having said that, back when I was a student, I managed to miss a connection & some other factors meant I got back onto a station [not a really big one] to find the train I was supposed to catch had vanished ... I wasn't about to wait several hours and was muttering about the situation, largely to myself and eyeing up the rake of "brutes" the mail gang had just brought up the ramp as the guy driving was showing off the twists and turns ... one of the senior mail guys said "you going to X ?" "well, I was ..."
He gave me a mail bag label and told me to get in the van ... the guard and one of the team on the train [it was a parcels service not the TPO] kept me entertained with some good gossip. After a short hop / lift, pretending to be a parcel, I got to the junction where I was able to catch the last but one train of the day that stopped at my home station ...
Sadly, there's no way that could happen today.

A very good friend - in charge at Crewe in the last century , often helped out genuine and non pissed passengers by accomodating them on parcels trains - (ride with the guard - if he was prepared to take them - which they usually were) - even giving them lifts on handy light engines going that way. Not that unusual back in the day.

I think he told the receiving station and the signalling staff - The joy of local empowerment. Never happen today .........or post 1996 for that matter.

Yeah, sadly, would never happen these days ...

--- another of my exploits with missing trains all those decades ago resulted in a footplate ride - wish I'd kept the note ! ...

e2a. not me missing the train, BR cancelled it - well, actually it had failed in section ...

in retrospect, at charing cross (jubilee line) having been closed for 25 years. i can remember the charing cross - baker street bit of the jubilee line being new and shiny...

This is still open {closes 13th August} - the more support the better from "off-island" ...

We discovered the Havering Minature Railway Club on Saturday; amazing and a little quirky.
The club have a secure area in Lodge Farm Park yet the track is 2k long and actually runs through the public areas in the park
crossing footpaths as it goes

Nearby - you have this well established railway - Chadwell Heath.........

I & WEMRC Steam/Open Days

They could do with a bit of support after some challenging years.

Something about these images of Tintern has made me go all nostalgic for a time I wasn't even around for,

Neil Parkhouse of Lightmoor Press bought a collection of pre-War Dufay colour slides taken by a family on a touring holiday either in 1937 or 1938. These were published as part of his excellent series "British railways in colour" on West Gloster and Wye Valley lines.

The station is still there housing a cafe, with a couple of coaches, restored signal box and miniature railway. It would have made an excellent preserved line but sadly they took out the bridge over the river Wye not long after closure leaving it cut off at one end.

did it sell these?

triangular chocolate biscuit
