Police face inquiry over case
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-21368391
bbc said:
A watchdog is investigating whether a police force acted quickly enough in its investigation of a rock star charged with child sexual offences.
Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, from Pontypridd, is accused of conspiracy to rape a baby and four offences relating to indecent images of children.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating whether South Wales Police acted "expediently".

One minute a rock star, the next....

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been placed on suicide watch five times an hour as he faces allegations of raping a baby, a court heard.

Cardiff Crown Court was told the 35-year-old has been assessed by a clinical psychologist who has recommended he be removed from Parc Prison in Bridgend and sent to a secure hospital for treatment.

Watkins, of Pontypridd, denies 24 sex offences, including raping a baby and possessing an extreme image of a person having sex with an animal....

Two female co-defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also in court.

One aged 20 has admitted sexually touching a child and taking and distributing indecent images of it.

The other, aged 24, denies all charges. All three were remanded in custody.

Judge Eleri Rees adjourned the hearing until 14 October for a case-management hearing at the same court.

WTF, he actually raped a baby? I thought the charge was conspiracy/attempting to arrange the rape of a baby (which is fucking disgusting in itself, but far preferable to the reality here).

:(

A couple of my mates worked with Ian at a web company back in 98-00. He had some extremely dodgy shit (animal porn) on his computer even back then. Innocent until proven and all that, but the allegations don't surprise me at all.

The allegations of possessing animal porn is a bit of a funny one really, I've been in possession of that sort of thing at one point during my youth. As an immature teenager at the time that video phones came out, everyone had clips like that which they would use to try to shock their mates with. Obviously being a thirty something and having the same values is a little different, but none of us ever thought we could go to prison for it.

these are the charges he has denied
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-24524869
Charges denied by Ian Watkins
  • Two charges of raping a baby
  • One of conspiracy to rape another child
  • One of sexual assault
  • One of aiding and abetting sexual assault by penetration
  • One of conspiracy to sexually assault a child
  • 11 of making indecent images
  • Two of taking indecent images
  • Four of possessing indecent images
  • One of possessing extreme pornographic images involving an animal

Those charges all look like they could come from a single incident, which could potentially mean it happened while they were absolutely fucked off their faces.

Not that it excuses it, but it would put it in a bit of a different light if it were that sort of situation vs repeated abuse.

Funnily enough, I was driving down the M4 the other day between Pencoed and Llantrisant and saw a prison van heading in the opposite direction with motorbike outriders, car escort and flashing lights-a-go-go heading in the opposite direction. I could only imagine it was heading to Parc, but couldn't for the life of me think who it might have been given that Parc is a cat B, and that high risk prisoners wouldn't, I assume, be put there. Prolly Watkins, then, eh?

(Although I could well be showing my utter ignorance of how the prison system works here :))

Fucking really:hmm::confused::facepalm:
You what?

What I meant was that I read the BBC article about 24 sex offences, then read the list of the 24 offences and realised it looked like they could all actually relate to one incident that had resulted in 24 different charges.

ie 3/4 of the charges relate to photographs either taken or possessed, only 3 to directly rape / sexual assault, and I was thinking the pictures could have been of the same incident.

I just got an idea in my head that there was a chance he'd been set up (eg for blackmail purposes), so I'd want to reserve judgement until the Jury had given their verdict.

The info in this other article though shows this not to be the case, and I obviously should have checked in a bit more detail about the case before posting.

He pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping one child in April 2012 and conspiring to rape and to sexual assault another, several months older than the first, between August and October the same year.

He went on to deny the sexual assault of the first child and aiding and abetting an assault by penetration on the second.

There were also not guilty pleas to the possession, the taking and the making of indecent images of children and to one charge of possessing an extreme pornographic image between January and December 2012.

That charge reletes to an alleged image which was 'grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character' involing a person and an animal.

The charges relating to indecent images of children allege offending by Watkins between 2007 and 2012.

He appears to have gone very grey.

Sounds like a grim case to be on the jury for:

The Lostprophets singer, 36, from Pontypridd, and two other women, who cannot be named, deny a total of 32 charges.

Judge Justice Royce warned potential jurors the trial would include "very graphic material".

Mr Watkins is accused of two separate counts of baby rape and conspiracy to rape another child.

He is also charged with one count of sexual assault, one of aiding and abetting sexual assault by penetration and conspiracy to sexually assault a child.

In addition he faces 17 counts of making, taking and possessing indecent images and one of possessing extreme pornographic image involving an animal.

He denies all 24 charges.

Dear fucking god. 'Raping a baby' is such an odd phrase... I mean, 'child' is one thing but the word 'baby' just sounds so utterly utterly fucked up :brrrrrrrrrr:

if you really don't want to be on a jury it is best to say something simple like "i have a holiday prebooked the flight is in 3 weeks time". (as long as the case is scheduled for more than 3 weeks of course). i watched a few people walk from cases saying this.
