’m involved with a group called Friends of Frendsbury Gardens and we’re having a fabulous event on Saturday 7 September that you’re all invited to!
The big occasion is that we were awarded a Green Flag for our park this year. To celebrate we’re holding lots of activities on Saturday 7 September from 10am to 1pm.
There will be:
· Bug club (especially for people aged 0 to 12) including bug hunts and arts and crafts activities (this is a regular first Saturday of the month event)
· Storytelling
· Workshop on foraging, picking and preserving run by the lovely people at Grow Wild (see http://growwild.org.uk/foraging-preserving/)
· Hoisting of the flag on our new flag pole by Lewisham’s mayor
· Mosaic making
And we hope there will be:
· Seed sale
· How to be green activities led by Lewisham Council’s recycling team
· Learning about volunteering in garden and other local projects and swap credits for fun activities
· Facepainting
Frendsbury gardens are about 10 minutes walk from Brockley station, about 20 minutes from Nunhead station and on the 484 (Herne Hill to Lewisham and back) and 343 (New Cross Gate to London Bridge and back) bus routes. About 10 years ago it was a wasteland where people dumped rubbish. Now it’s a thriving community park/garden with a pond, bug palace, vegetable and fruit beds, lots of flowers, living willow arch and bushes and trees, hut and toilet, on site compost and picnic benches. It’s on the edge of two housing estates, with a railway passing by above and roads on two sides and yet it is still a bustling but tranquil little place to come and visit.

Outdoor reggae party in NEw Cross's FOrdham Park this Saturday
The forecast is cold, but may just stay dry - I think the sound will be set up on concrete so no worries about mud
An auspicious site, what with the free festivals of yore, and Shaka used to play the Moonshot - it may not be that great, but Im going for the whole day and will be working (drinking) hard to have fun
Linky here too:Got alink to this so that I can share?
thats good, i didnt realise there was that much going on around it - includes a tent of some description which is reassuring
my mate who i was going to go to this with says hes heard its been cancelled due to the rain...i havent seen that confirmed anywhere yet, but he must have heard it from somewhere ... bah
You want the Peckham thread. Can anyone tell me about The Bussey building/CLF Art Cafe?

Yes - We went to celebrate my wifes 42nd birthday and had a great time - The crowd were generally much younger than I expected but there was a decent mix of people, no attitude and almost everyone was dancing (from flailing arms drunken style to some amazing jazz and hip hop dancers). We met an American b-boy who had only really been out to the wankiest Shoreditch clubs and was under the impression that British ravers were white, middle class and mostly static from the neck down. Venue is great and felt a bit like being at an 80s Family Function / Shake and fingerpop warehouse party.

have you been up one tree hill and / or hilly fields yet? also good viewsI discovered Blythe Hill Fields recently whilst doing a waterway and park walk up from Lewisham bus garage. What an amazing view! I walked into the park and literally 'wowed', I was not expecting that at all.

I love all the hills round there (glad I don't cycle them though)
