their really early unreleased stuff was the best tbh. anyone who was at those first secret toilet gigs will swear to that

I started thinking about this, then it turned out solo artists (say, Louis Armstrong or Otis Redding) and band-leaders (say, Sun Ra or Louis Jordan) don't count .. so I'm basically left with 40-odd metal bands and half a dozen punk bands, plus the Beatles, UB40, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Bryan Adams (he's had the same band since 1984)

And nobody needs that.

Yes a lot of people who only discovered them in those later toilet gigs say that. Those of us who heard their demo cassettes from the shipping container sessions before that know that Bazz was only truly creative on the acoustic sitar….you know before they got mainstream when you liked them…

Great list. I'm familiar with some (obviously if you like these I no longer can)...
But for passing Billboard Readers' edification...

Termination Shock is an album by Traveler
Uruk-Hai are a real band from Spain
The Termites are a real Psychobilly band; presumably THE TERMITES THE TERMITES! are a tribute band?
Odin's Balls is an online metal fanzine
Putrefactory are a real band from Mexico
Prolapse were a band once, I assume the umlauted version is a 'continuity' Prolapse that includes the bass player and drummer?

The others are too obscure for me so have 9 hipster points. They're vegan!

Evidently it is not possible to think of something so stupid that metal hasn't already done it with a straight face. I concede defeat :(

I'm not a huge fan of psychobilly, but The Termites were brilliant - they had a real raw punk edge to them
Going off to have a quick listen (first time I've searched for The Termites online, which is weirdly nostalgic) I found a ska duo, and an all-girl vocal group, both from the 60's, both called The Termites.

I reckon THE TERMITES THE TERMITES! isn't a metal band after all. I think it's an eleven-piece performance collective who play microtonal rastabilly skank.

I bet there are posters spending hours coming up with a list of their top 50 bands making sure that no one else has heard of any of them.
