Left of Labour/'alternative' results

Random

Ethnic nalgocrat
For this thread I'll count Greens as left of Labour. Interesting to hear about any leftie SNP/PC candidates as well.

From what I see on Twitter Leanne Wood is bemoaning the bad result. This will probably undermine her attempt to push Plaid leftwards, won't it?

Respect seems to have taken five seats in Bradford, and Lavalette has held on to his seat.

Has Dave Nellist really lost in Coventry? Staggering to think that a socialist figure with such a high local profile and history of campaigning can be unseated.

Greens did pretty well around the UK I think

In Birmingham, the TUSC candidate in Acocks Green got 58 votes and Communities Against the Cuts who stood in Kings Norton and Bournville did pretty well, close to Lib Dems in both and Greens in Kings Norton, got 130 something votes in Kings Norton and 250 something in Bournville. They were all first time candidates, catc only formed before this election from a local anti-cuts campaign group

There were also two SLP candidates standing somewhere or other, no idea how they did. No green councillors though.

Yes, unfortunately he has. There are a couple of reasons why I think this has happened and I'll post something about it later cos I'm on my phone on a tram right now.

Green party took one seat from Labour in Reading, held some seats, gained one from Lib-Dem and lost one to Labour in Oxford, where Labour also gained a seat from IWCA who didn't stand this time.

Nothing radical to report from Wokingham.

In response to my own question, seems like a lefty to me:

"On the planet that I come from humans do things differently and us penguins, polar bears and all living things have the food we need and the humans leave us alone by respecting our rights to co-exist alongside them in harmony."

"Need and not greed is their philosophy and they have an economic system which is based on respect for each other and their planet which recognises equality and the limited resources available. And, funnily enough, by working from the ground up rather than from the top down, that gets people involved because they know their opinions will be heard. Everybody gets what they need."

Greens also gained seats in Dudley, Worcester, Solihull, Nuneaton and Redhill - four from Tories, one from Lib Dem I think.

And another Green in Langside ward in Glasgow (turfing out the leader of the Glasgow Lib Dems)

Another Green in Midlothian and one in Edinburgh so far too, they seem to be doing quite well.

edit, and one in Aberdeen...

fwiw he didn't hold onto his seat - he lost that last year. he successfully challenged a sitting labour councillor. same ward, but a different seat iyswim.

lavalette didn't seem that pleased about winning either - labour party gossip suggests he wasn't planning on standing but was pushed into it by the SWP...
