Very true. As a general rule: the bigger the kit, the worse the drummer. Although I will allow a floor tom as well as one (not two) mounted. One crash cymbal, one ride. C'est tout.

Topper Headon: 4 drum kit.
Gene Krupa: 4 drum kit.
Keith Moon: 30 drum kit.

That's a point in his favour. Maybe a drummer's drummer might be Dave Wekl. But you can't love Dave Wekl's drumming you can only admire it. I don't want that. I want to just go mental when I listen to music. I don't want to be some sort of wine taster.

I love the Who anyway. The only drumming I can do is via software. But seriously, what's the problem with that track? It's not quantized, gridlocked 4 to the floor. It's a recording of a live energetic performance on a real kit and it works.

It's out of time, sluggish, ham-fisted, soulless, boring, predictable and worst of all unsexy in the extreme.

I'm no great drummer, but I was perfectly serious when I said I could do better than that. Read the YouTube comments that follow it, many of them are from drummers. Not to knock you for liking it, but it does confirm that Moon was the non-drummer's drummer.
