Kim Johnson, the Labour MP for Liverpool Riverside and a former member of the home affairs select committee, said the agenda for the bilateral meeting was “disturbing”.
“Meloni’s approach to Albanian migration has been described as a ‘model of mismanagement and a blueprint for abuse’ by Human Rights Watch. It is disturbing that Starmer is seeking to learn lessons from a neo-fascist government – particularly after the anti-refugee riots and far-right racist terrorism that swept Britain this summer.
Indeed. from the article:Is this for real? Words genuinely fail me.
government sources and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) appeared to confirm this weekend the idea had in effect been put on ice, with consideration of how to tackle the backlog set to be folded instead into a wider review of courts policy being conducted by Sir Brian Leveson. It will make its initial recommendations in the spring.
It is not "immigation policy". It is policy towards those who seek asylum.Link in Guardian article to previous visit by Starmer to talk the far right MP.
It's really disturbing to me that he and Lammy are seriously visiting and talking to far right in Europe to learn lessons on how to deal with immigration.
I thought when they came to power and ditched Rwanda idea there would be a change to start to make a more humane immigration policy
Far from it. Now they are talking about Italian policy of processing people in third country ( Albania in Italy case) for example. Which in my mind isn't that different from Rwanda policy of Tories
I didn't realise how far down the road Starmer has gone to ditch any liberal measures. It looks to me there is a continuity between Tories and Labour on immigration.
Here is Labour MP concerns,

It is not "immigation policy". It is policy towards those who seek asylum.
But the people most in need, the asylum seekers, are treated the worst. This governemnt and the previous government are pro-immigration but anti-asylum seeker.Dividing people up into asylum seekers and other categories is in my view how the immigration debate in this country is constructed in way that favours the right.
The government has used terms like stopping "illegal immigration" and "irregular immigration"It is not "immigation policy". It is policy towards those who seek asylum.
