Just Stop Oil

Anyone know more about these arrests?

They should sue for compo but I bet some them want to go for a jr

Fuck me five years for Hallam and four for his crew is a bit steep, even by the standards of "making an example".

The judge's line as well is telling a tale (as though his antics banning them and their supporters from mentioning their cause hadn't prior to now) - been reading too many tabloid op-eds.

“I acknowledge that at least some of the concerns are shared by many, but the plain fact is that each of you has some time ago crossed the line from concerned campaigner to fanatic.”

Just when the current government are trying to reduce the numbers in prison. That's crazy.
Our right to protest is being slowly diminished. No demo's without prior approval of the police,
no demo's on Parliament Sq since we lost Brian Hawe. This smacks for a move towards a police state.
I cannot wait for the time when I dont have to worry about my job when I go on a demo.
5 years and 4 years

Where is the line, who drew it, and what’s the penalty for being judged to have crossed it?

Because I’m more than “concerned” myself. Much more.

On the other hand it's a day or less for each of the people prosecuted for xr activity who received no solidarity or support from the organisation. RH is imo a nasty piece of work who has had a fuckton of support and sympathy that he wasn't prepared to offer to others.

Are any of the motorists filmed dragging / pushing over protesters going to be prosecuted?

Notable lack of repeal for recent protest legislation yesterday

It's strange to me that there doesn't seem to be some form of home imprisonment. Maybe there is, but I have zero knowledge of the criminal justice system.

I was less than impressed by his manipulative attitude in the Chris Packham documentary. It set off alarm bells. However, there are two principles that supersede my misgivings about the man: the urgency of the climate crisis, and the tyranny of the state in cracking down on protest.

Yeah this basically, can't stand the bloke as an activist but where he goes so go others, etc.

Petition is doing good numbers, for what it's worth (nothing), 17k so far, reckon it will hit 100k

House arrest or curfew with ankle tag is a thing, but not in this case.
Classified as non custodial. In this case the judge has obviously ruled that this offence or offences can only deserve a custodial sentence.
I suspect any appeal will be targeted on a threshold of normally a custodial sentence however possibly suspended or community sentence with restriction of liberty?

I remember an act coming in to force while Brian Haw was still around but they made a loop hole for him to remain, even keeping his space when he went t in to hospital.
For the current state, it's a touch ambiguous, see protests

Ps was Brian Haw an extremist, had he crossed the line or had he lost the plot. He walked away from his family to be there, and there he stayed.
