Jungle

one for the historians here and in the spirit of xmas truces:

Back in 1994, live on the mic at a Roast session, MC 5ive 0 infamously criticised General Levy, feeling that Levy was selling out jungle and going around saying he ran it. You can hear 5ive 0's attack here:

Uploaded this last night - breaking news from 3 years ago!

Ive always found 5ive 0 slightly annoying. Sometimes he talks too much. He could have made a point and moved on, but it was indeed a bit of a rant.

Ok...i guess i can ask here. I would be eternally grateful if someone had any ideas about the tune dropping at 31:20?

five-0 is a character like no other thats for sure - youve got to love him
for about a year or so he had a morning phone in show on kool, where he'd buy a copy of the sun and talk through some of the stories from it, taking calls from listeners too - suited him to a T! in another world he'd have got his own TV show

I think i heard a couple of those shows! If thats what your tuning in for then Kool (!) There's a time and place though. Certaintly dont want to hear politics in a rave. Sometimes he was just outright rude lol not like hes even one of the better MCs :D

Seriously cant find the tune anywhere without an MC over it...annoying.
Its a little clearer below ...13:20...one of those obscure tunes i always used to hear at time but doesnt get any play. Its the ones i appreciate the most

That show made me laugh…

5-O: So, caller, where do you stand on this tricky dilemma?
Caller: Just bun dem.

Gotta give some love to 5-O though, I actually always loved hearing him on Kool. I think he's got a great radio MCing style and a huge personality, even if he's not particularly gifted technique-wise (especially for raves).

that is a great tune
id guess on a bristol connection cos of the double bass but yeah i dont know
i'll ask on rolldabeats...im curious now

That period I proper went off the motormouth MCing.

Just. Shut. The. Fuck. Up. For. One. Second. I. Want. To. Listen. To. This. Tune.

I cant imagine going to a jungle rave back then without riding along to Stevie, Skibs and co. You cant deny it added to the atmosphere no??? But listening at home/car, its bloody annoying.

got it sovereignb
its ant miles from the ram camp on production no less
Liftin Spirits - Surreal.
i like how short and sweet it is..... 4mins!

Seriously...YOU. ARE. A. GEE

Cant thank you and whoever RolldaBeats is, enough. Never heard of Ant Miles before, but I did guess it was something from the Bristol Crew, so kept looking through nuff Roni Size and Krust sets

Such a simple melllow tune but i like it...my ringtone for a bit i think. Much appreciated again :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Ant Miles was an older guy who had a sophisticated home studio...one day a teenager called Andy asked if he would let him make jungle tunes on his set up. Ram Records was born. Any tracks by Origin Unknown are Andy C and Ant Miles - 31 seconds being the biggest of their smashers. It was Ant's knowledge and oversight that helped bring Andy up into the fold. Supposedly Ant never even once went to a rave - I read that in an interview with him once.

Jungle history lesson as well! Cheers...and that forum will be right up my street.

This seems to be pretty overlooked, never made it onto any comps and can only find crappy mono rips of it on soulseek.

Merlin - Encounters (1995, renegade records)

Anyone got a good rip of this or anyone know if the exclusive cool kids club has a 320/FLAC?

stumbled upon this today - a Romford DJs epic track inspired by his young daughter with a little seaside feel to it too - kind of haunting - a little crude but very heartfelt - love it

Just listened to it...I like the build up and yes it is haunting in a mellow way. I love it.

As posted on the DnB/Jungle thread, "The Self-Evident Truth Of An Intuitive Mind" has been remastered. Every time I listen to jungle I am struck by just how well it's aged: for me, it sounds fresh in a way that most other genres of its time can't claim to be.

Plug is definately worthy of a mention in this thread!

I used to absolutely adore LTJ Bukem, his Good Looking/Looking Good labels and that jazzy jungle sound he pioneered. Me and a mate once helped another mate move from West Yorks up to Northumbria in a Transit over a long weekend in the summer of 95, we played the first Bukem Essential Mix non-stop over two round trips, by the time we were on our last trip back home we could karaoke MC along with Conrad.

After partying at 51st State Festival on Saturday, passed by A.W.O.L at the old SW1 club in Victoria and raved till the early the early morn.
My soul is still shaken..top night and day as it goes!
