Jungle

I get the feeling alot of the older crew are not aware of this new sound but would really appreciate it...its a shame.

Getting ready to start posting these jungle mixes, by way of a prequel Ive just uploaded this

An excerpt from Billy Daniel Bunters radio show on Kool London, in which he introduces clips of Rebel MC and DJ Ron laying the foundations of UK Jungle in 1987, at the Acton Town Hall All-Dayer.

Really interesting clip if you're interested in the history of jungle

whilst poking around my channel this evening i just remembered this jungle set stream i did in the first lockdown - feels so long ago now... listening back now and its alright!!

Junglism Pt.1 - Proto Jungle 1989-1991

Welcome to the first in a series of four mixes tapping into the past and present of the UK Jungle sound. For this first instalment I'm going back to 1989 to touch on the breakbeat-rap foundations upon which the subsequent emergent prototype Jungle sound of 1990 and 1991 was built on. Absolute time of culture creation.
Look out for Pt 2 1992 selection, Pt 3 will be the golden age of 1993-95, and Pt 4 will take it up the new wave of jungle producers putting out tunes today. Really hope you enjoy the series.

PART TWO OF THE UK JUNGLE MIX SERIES, moving on from the proto years of 1989-1991 to look at the transitional but foundational year of 1992. Download, stream, tracklist, here>>>

Calling this mix Pirate Jungle as such a key role was played by pirate radio stations, particularly the likes of Weekend Rush, Kool and Defection in forging this as a sound apart, and pushing tunes that often didn't get played at the big raves.

I've been listening to this Photek track off a mid-90s Mo'Wax comp on repeat recently, it's so good - slowish and quite techno, sounds as much like Bandulu as drum & bass, I've not heard much quite like it

there was a phase in the mid 90s when trip hop / mo wax types were playing 'jungle' (intricately drum programmed) records at 33 - the result sounding a lot like that track actually. i remember grooverider having a rant about it on the radio once :D

interesting ep from last month- a label from Hong kong doing retro dance of all flavours, three different artists on this all from east asia (South Korea, HK and Japan I think)
this is the best track - Mr Ho co-runs the label

posting here for posterity

🦁 PART 3 OF MY JUNGLE MIX SERIES - GOLDEN ERA TIME! 🦁

What I've tried to do here is keep clear of the harder amen rinse outs, and also anything too cosmic or gurn inducing (much as I love all of that!). Going for a more bubbling vibe, with some deeper drum workouts and a couple of rarer ones in there to keep it interesting. Niceness for summer. ☀️

Next week the final mix in this series, Part 4, I'll be playing some new tunes that are reviving the jungle tradition in fine style. Part 1 Proto Jungle 89-91 and Part 2 Pirate Jungle 92 on the blog: Mikus Musik

The final chapter in my 4-part UK Jungle series: FUTURE JUNGLE. There is definitely a Jungle revival going on - has been bubbling for a while - but I think 2020 could go down as a vintage year and a turning point - seems to be so many good tunes have come out this last year.

Is Remarc still making tunes? Whenever I search for his back catalog it's virtually non existant on discogs and stops in the mid 90s. I know he still DJs but for me he's one of the best, maybe even the best, editor of the amen break but I only seem to be able to find a limited selection of his tunes.

Fairly sure if there was anything beyond what's on discogs it'd be up there tbh - some serious nerds collecting that stuff so it's all catalogued very tightly.

That's exactly what I thought but then I've seen a video he filmed himself of him making a tune. It wasn't really in his style so it's perfectly possible he's doing one for someone else. I'm just surprised it seems he made a batch of tunes in around 1993-94 yet he still DJs regularly. Spinning tunes is obviously easier than making them but still, I wish he'd made more.

Yeah I've heard a lot from those comps, this one being a personal favourite but nothing else. I guess he's not doing it anymore. Gonna have to catch him DJing when he's back here.

Got those unreleased dubs, heavy as fuck!
There is a new Suburban Base 30 year box set that has 2 Remarc tunes on, unreleased promo and an unreleased dub
Bit pricey tho
