Jews stoned in East End (again)

Holocaust Day marred by 'racist' stone-throwing

THE Holocaust Memorial Day marking the genocides of the 20th century was marred on Sunday when a gang of youths stoned Jewish tourists on a guided tour of London's East End.

A group of 96 visitors looking at sites of Jewish interest were attacked by youths hiding behind a fence in a back street in Whitechapel.

Two were struck by the missiles, an American woman lecturer at London's Metropolitan University and a Canadian lecturer. The woman had blood pouring from her head and needed hospital treatment.

It's not the first time, either.

Presumably, the cowardly little thugs in question are not among the 500+ youths over whom Big Abjol Miah claims "influence".

Let's hope for a repeat of the ¡No pasarán! stance... in favour of our Jewish cousins in case there's any doubt.

JHE, I read the East London Advertiser link.

Its such nasty stuff. Its made me so sad.
Its a proper disgrace on so many levels, especially as it will inevitably add to the impression some groups arent as welcome as others in the East End.

OK, 4 stone throwing kids arent gate keepers to the area, they probably didnt know the full implications of their 'prank,' but despite the swift official apologies, this incident is going to resonate with so many people and far beyond these shores. Shameful.

East London Advertiser link said:
The Met's new police liaison officer for the area, Ins Brian Mitchell, was immediately informed about Sunday's incident in which he said youths shouted at the tourists, 'if you go any further you'll die.'

He added: "It gets flagged up as 'racial' because of the victims' perception of what happened.
I winced at his final comment- so clumsy, not most sensitive/ sensible thing to have said.

Has there been an increase in anti-semitic attacks in Whitechapel?

Unfortunately yes..

The anniversary of the V2 rocket explosion at Hughes Mansions, in Tower Hamlets, which in 1945 was a mainly Jewish area was attacked by Asian youths who stoned the mainly elderly Jews at the memorial dedication.

I did read of a similar incident at a WW2 commemoration in the area in 2005 (?) where the issue appeared to be the presence of Jewish ex-servicemen offending our oppressed Muslim brothers.

Any comment from the local MP?

I don't know to be honest.

I've lived in whitechapel for years and when I read the story I just assumed it was a bunch of the Yoof being their usual idiot selves. Perhaps there was a racial motive, but to be honest, I think it's much more likely that they saw a bunch of well dressed people on an organised walk and decided it would be funny to have a go and chuck some stones.

I live around the back of altab ali park, where if you go on any evening you'll see plenty of drunk asian asbo yoof, posturing like peacocks and trying to out shout each other in shows of manliness. I think even if it was a local history group or a jack the ripper tour they were likely to get the same treatment.

That's not to appologise for the little oiks, but perhaps to add a bit of context.

That is horrendous, have respect/respect renewal put out anything or are they remaining silent/, there have also many incidents of asian youths attacking white people in my area, (and yes for being white) very violent attacks indeed and yet a wall of silence has ensued. All this must be exposed for what it is: racism...

I'm serious, if this was an attack by white fascists on Asians, the SWP and co would be on the streets faster than Jack Robinson, it doesn't reflect well on the left and urbanites wonder why poster, myself and others are damning of the unreconstructed left.

No, this is precisely the problem with "the left and urbanites" - the immediate reaction to anything is "so why haven't the SWP condemned this eh????" Can't see an event without using it as an excuse to infight. I was wondering how long it would take, I knew it wouldn't be long.

Why haven't you condemned it, FridgeMagnet? Why didn't you speed there immediately in your condemnobile* and loudly proclaim "I, CONDEMNOMAN! CONDEMN! THIS! ATROCITY!". Jew murderer.

*doesn't really work sorry

What's this "apologising on behalf of the community" shit about?
E2A- Sorry Mauvais, were are you addressing Bristly or the local mayor/MP speeches?

---
To my thinking, its about acknowledging that there are arseholes in that community, and trying to make it clear to those who were attacked and to the wider community, that the attack is not deemed 'acceptable' by the majority of people who live there.

Its also about showing solidarity.

If your kids misbehaved on a visit somewhere, is it just enough for you to make your kids apologise? Or would you instinctively also add your own apology- to show bad behaviour isnt acceptable in your house?

Not impossible that the posturing might include some pseudo-"jihadi" anti-semitic bullshit though.

bollocks, there would be reams of comdemnation on here if the situation was reversed, as you well know, stop shooting the messenger.

btw mauvais, what do You think should happen?

Dammit, rumbled. You didn't see me behind that fence, right?

If you apologise for your children, your apology might be meaningful, as you're in a position of influence if not directly to blame yourself.

If the community turns out in protest to show their disgust then the same might apply, but not one 'representative'.

I don't know, it seems to me at odds with the lack of community that a politician or indeed any individual can apologise on behalf of someone in their neighbourhood. I guess my cynicism stems from this whole mysterious concept of 'community leaders'.

true, but to be honest, in my opinion it's more often than not connected to the lack of asian girls allowed out and about. The teenage boys just seem to bottle up all of their angst/sexual tension and let it rip on passers by. Let them chat up a few girls and there would be half the problems. I guess this is a bit of de-rail though.

Basically, from the article the only people who are referring to it as a racial attack were the people who had the stones thrown at them. I saw it more as a turf/territory thing than a racial thing. Certainly their chants weren't racially motivated were they, I doubt they even really knew what the walk was about.

still little shits though, no excuse for that kind of behaviour whatever the motive.

It wasnt just one person apologising, that would have been hollow. It is such a shaming incident, it needed a joint statement of apology/ condemnation from across the Tower Hamlets spectrum.

It was signed by the Labour council leader, the Lib Dems, Conservatives and Respect. It was issued on behalf of the community- Representative Democracy?

The dickheads who did it may not care that an apology has been issued, but other decent people live there too.

Why are you minimising the event? Its only those who were attaked making a racial thing of it?

Why isnt it a big deal to you? Connected to the frustration due to Asian girls being left in? Utter horseshit!

Bloody hell, BP, that is just shite, are you drunk, i have lost some of my respect for you and your activities, you are apolitical activist, I can't imagine you would say the same if it has been white lads who had done all this, really is a poor show.
