Jeremy Corbyn's time is up

Shockat Adam (Leicester South), Jeremy Corbyn (Islington North), Adnan Hussain (Blackburn), Ayoub Khan (Birmingham Perry Barr), and Iqbal Mohamed (Dewsbury & Batley), have written to the Speaker to inform him that they've formed The Independent Alliance, a formal parliamentary group, and requested to be given the privileges of a group.

As Chairman Mao said "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".

People also ask ''Is Mao Tse Tung still alive?''

Missed a trick by not calling it The Independent Group, imo.

The Conservative leadership candidate Kemi Badenoch attacked the group at her campaign launch on Monday morning, saying: “When everyone was talking about the five new MPs from Reform, I was far, far more worried about the five new MPs elected on the back of sectarian Islamist politics, alien ideas that have no place here.”

There's a story in today's Grauniad about Corbyn making a speech at the inaugural meeting of a new left project provisionally entitled "Collective".

It seems to have been a "way forward for the left" meeting with notions of a left alternative to Labour forming. Corbyn hasn't endorsed it personally, yet, but the core group will be to organise the independent MPs elected in July on a pro-Palestinian platform.

Interesting, even if many of the names mentioned are tired old faces from RESPECT, etc. Sorry if it has been mentioned up thread but couldn't see anything about it.

According to the article, the indepenent MPs will not be involved.

“It also may not ultimately involve the four independent candidates who won seats at the last general election on a pro-Palestinian platform and who have subsequently formed a parliamentary alliance with Corbyn.”

“There are no plans yet to involve those MPs in the formation of the new party. “It’s not obviously clear that they share a kind of broad-based political project,” one source said.”

Dubious project really if its just the usual ageing suspects but hopefully it can be something a bit better. Will be interesting to see how / if it develops.

I know little about these independents, and I am not surprised that they are not involved. The trouble with independents is that they are not even accountable to a party. I don't know the platform on which they stood.

"Collective"? Why not just call it "Tank"?

insert tank-in-the-polls gag here

I look forward to the Socialist Labour Party's extraordinary congress for four hours of impassioned debate on whether they should join or not.
