Israel and hezbollah after the exploding pagers

I think Biden will mainly be remembered for his catastrophically useless failure regarding Israel and the Middle East.

Fairly sure most people will think it's just another load of shit in the Middle East.

I pretty much never comment on Israel shit, as I don't know enough about it beyond all sides seem to be cunts, but I do know that the repeated utter humanitarian disasters that come from that area resonate with the wider world about as much as another IRA 'atrocity' in NI did to those in England in the 80's, i.e. jack shit.

A Bloomberg data graphic/visualisation showing the imbalance of terrorist firepower across the Israel/Lebanon border over the last year:

I appreciate it might not have been possible for reasons of space, but a timeline showing the context of many of these strikes would have been useful here I think. Certainly my memory of a lot of the Hezbollah strikes have been that they were in response to significant attacks by the IDF / Israeli intelligence (whether that was in Gaza, the WB, Lebanon or elsewhere).

There is a lot of Islamophobia but i dont agree that the public at large are unmoved by what they have seen on their TVs of the use inter alia of 2000 bombs to bury children alive in Gaza. But thats perhaps not what you are referring to here.

Wasn't forever war what they already had?

In a sense yes.

The historian Rashid Khalifa entitled his book the hundred years war on Palestinians.

Its a war on Palestinians that continues to this day

On Lebanon I think the analyst is saying Netanyahu, against US wishes, wants to escalate the war. Biden only has weeks left. During this time Netanyahu has ability to do what he wants. Try to get Hezbollah out of the picture.

This might not be that easy. Hezbollah is a large organisation. Israel might deal it a significant blow now. But a new generation of leaders will take over.

It is what my mate at work thinks. It's all tribal out their and all they do is kill each other. Its Islam - its backwards etc. As he's watched youtube videos on it.

He's nice enough bloke. Afraid for a lot of people ,who as he says, rather watch sport than news, they almost find it irritating when something like this happens. Despite watching sport he still finds time to watch youtube on this.

I don't discuss it with other people much except here and a few people who I go to demos with.

I also think now this has gone on for a year.the level of violence has almost become normalised.

Of course if one meets people of middle eastern background here its an important topic. There are bits of London with loads of Palestinian flags. My cafe run by a nice middle eastern couple have support Palestinian stickers in their cafe.

So it also depends on who one mixes with.

I live in Tower Hamlets. Palestinian flags keep getting put on every lamppost in the area. And the usually useless council are ruthlessly efficient at taking them down. They cant do much about the flags all on all the shops though.

I go through Whitechapel sometimes and see a lot of flags.

Islamophobia?

Yes anti- Muslim chauvinism as evidenced recently in the reaction to the stabbing in Southport probably as old as the crusades the idea that the lives of the infidel are of less value or have no value another load of shit in the Middle East.

Biden is so timid in his desire to restrain Bibi. But then he and his party are paid by the Israel lobby to be timid, as most US politicians are.

No doubt about it if this invasion goes pear shaped we will be dragged into it and I have no wish to support Israel in any way at all.

Genuinely, why do you think the UK will/could be dragged into it?

Israel invades Lebanon with some regularity, and we've never got involved before.

Why do think it's different this time, and have you read anything anywhere to suggest that it is?

if you caught Netanyahu's "direct" appeal to the Iranian people it is possible to interpret his remarks as meaning that they the Iranian people should expect "regime change" in due course- meanwhile he was also expanding on Israel's ability to strike anywhere in the region at a time of its choosing. It is not outlandish to suppose that Israel could attack Iran- we know which side the US and therefore the UK would take in that eventuality- the wrong one as usual.

Well if other powerful actors enter the conflict I assume the US would get involved which means there would be high probability of us joining the US as unfortunately we always seem to do.

I haven't heard anything except this which is extremely worrying;
