I passed the aftermath of two crashes on my way home from work today.

One had a Range Rover with the front completely crumpled.

The other had a Bentley Bentayga in a bad way

Fortunately there didn't appear to be any serious injuries at either

See. Big cars are safer. :p

Will be in Albania/ Macedonia soon. Will be doing some miles. The usual Tirana airport rental stuff is available but if I go local and rent from an Alb, I can get some bargains. needs to be 4x4 for some semi rough. I can get a 2010 RR sport for 80 euro pog a day. or a 17 year old Volvo XC90 for 20 pog a day less. It woul be utterly stupid to get a RR sport for the lols yes ? I will in the sticks for a bit so....

update, i ended up with a ford kuga 4x4 derv. 150k on the clock. 50 pog a day equivalent. no issues. even sent on some stupidly steep and high mountain tracks in it with no problems . I cannot imagine being in a dead RR sport 10 k into the mountain track wilderness. it gave me the fear to even consider it

I'm not a fan of large 4x4 cars but I'm equally not up for deflating or damaging tyres of them when parked.

Along the coast from us is a lifeboat station. Many of the crew use 4x4. Imagine you're called for a shout, you rush to your vehicle and find you've got flat tyres. You can't get to the station, you can't launch.

I think about this a lot because I'm thinking of applying to crew a rescue boat and will be thinking about buying a RR or similar so I can always get on/off the beach for launches.

Also a lot of farmer's use 4x4. Some of these live in the town, as do some doctors and vets. They go out to their vehicle and find they've got flat/damaged tyres. There's now a delay before getting to the animal/patient that needs your help.

I know these scenarios are going to be rare, but they can/will happen.

As I said I'm not a fan of these vehicles, but I'm not a fan of this sort of vandalism. (The dealership is fair game I suppose)
those in the know use dacia dusters

The spurn point lifeboat has a full time crew. They even had houses there. It's moving to grimsby soon.

Yeah, Tower and Spurn (Humber) are the only paid crews, Tower as it is so busy they need to be there all the time, Humber as it is too remote for crews to attend when a pager goes off. My old neighbour was a crew member at Tower, he had a Ford Fiesta.

The Humber is the UK's largest port complex and has a significant proportion of the UK's shipping movement which is why there's a permanently crewed lifeboat station.

There's been a lifeboat there for over 100 years, it opened in 1810 and currently has a class 7 boat, Pride of the Humber. Crews from Spurn have been awarded 33 medals for gallantry.

(Guess who's joined RNLI)

Been a member for years. It's also 30 minutes from the nearest proper settlement...

One of the busiest in the UK if I recall - I think its the only one with a full time crew...

Did some work with a guy who crewed that boat. In his spare time he was a part time (retained in old money) firefighter in the village he lived in at weekends. And he turned out for St John’s Ambulance for events. He was - nice bloke but very keen…
