The G-Wagen is amazing off road though that one needs different tyres.
The V8s are discontinued in 2023.
Oh they can be, sure.
That one isn’t though.

This whole idea of a 'luxury' off roader that weighs 3 tons is a fundamentally shit one. Nothing that heavy will get up a muddy or icy incline beyond a certain angle with only four tyres for traction; no matter how many computers it has to make sure the idiot at the wheel doesn't have to decide what gear to use or how much power or whatever.
Which I guess was useful for the original military customers, but probably has slightly less day to day relevance for the dickheads that now buy them.A G will climb (and descend) a 45 deg slope. What other off-roader will do better than that?

There are plenty of reasons not to buy a G, the price for a start, but slagging them off for insufficient off-road ability is just ignorant.
A pepper spray must be preferable to shot guns.
In case people did not like the cullinan, this one appears to have been transformed (for a price of course)

But starting at $285,000 ffsPeak bellend. Don’t expect we’ll see one on these shores due to legality of some of the interesting features like pepper spray wingmirrors…

Far from me to defend SUVs- I hate the things and would never own one- but that claim seems unlikely to me. Americans have always driven absurdly large gas guzzlers; it is not a recent trend, and even if a few of the richest ones might have upgraded to increasingly absurdly large models, your average Joe is still likely to be driving similarly sized pickup trucks as those from the last few decades. And even in America, new cars are undeniably less polluting than they were decades ago."It was recently found that SUVs are the second biggest cause of the global rise in carbon dioxide emissions over the past decade, eclipsing all shipping, aviation, heavy industry and even trucks."

It’s because SUVs have taken over from other forms of vehicle. So there is a big increase in emissions from SUVs, but there is a corresponding decrease from other vehicles.I almost feel dirty making this point as I really don’t like SUVs, and the other points made in the Guardan article regarding increased risk to pedestrians etc are all very valid points. Just pointing out that their somehow and quite suddenly causing a dramatic spike in worldwide pollution levels seems rather puzzling …
yeah exactlyIt’s because SUVs have taken over from other forms of vehicle. So there is a big increase in emissions from SUVs, but there is a corresponding decrease from other vehicles.
Again, this is not a defence of SUVs. I’m just pointing out that you can’t look at SUV data in isolation.
When an Audi RS4 becomes the green choice in a car park...Stayed at a posh hotel in the South Downs between Xmas and New Year, ours was pretty much the only car in the car park that wasn't an SUV; nearly every car was a Bentayga, Cayenne, M Class or Q7. was quite strange tbf.

Or straight over the top of them (assuming you don't ground it )Throw in some toys, an engine with some actual bollocks, right hand drive obvs and you have yourself a tidy fucking motor there...
Perfect for pottering around the Cotswolds.

Just designers who have no flair or imagination. Are car manufacturers employing 12-year old designers these days or what?
