Is the High Street doomed

Kent maybe is a different kettle of fish... I (we) have been looked up and down like a cunt on more than occasion in some small pubs and takes five minutes before overhearing some utter bullshit right wing tabloid talking points, so I'm sticking with clique ;)

I did have to bite my lip yesterday, for the first time a guy came out with shit about shooting those on the small boats, I made some comment about how luckily that would never happen, he went out for a fag, and his wife apologised for him, I felt sorry for her TBH.

Micro pubs perhaps have a different vibe in terms of decor and beer offering to a 'traditional' pub, but they do tend to be much closer to an old fashioned pub in terms of sociability than your average drinking barn or food-led pub.

But they are too small and make me feel quite claustrophobic. I've struggled with small spaces since covid. Not so much because of germs, but because I lost the habit of being crammed up with other people.

On reflection there are a couple of micro pubs in Reading where I used to live - The Fruitbat and Up The Junction - which have been in situ for over 25 years.

Both were converted shops in a row of other shops and were fairly grimy places. And yes claustrophobic and cramped. More like a Shebeen really

Have been in one of these in Berkshire recently. Suspect they’re quite middle class in nature, coffee during the day, craft beer type places, not sure they’ll be that welcoming to a wider range of pubgoers
I love micropubs. They're usually welcoming, attract (beer) tourists and locals, real ale/craft beer focussed. They tend to not have other entertainment (music, TVs, radio, fruit machines) which I prefer. Some people won't enjoy that vibe for sure.

I think I need to visit some proper micro pubs is the conclusion I’ve drawn!

It's interesting to see the "front room pub", which generally used to be rough as arseholes rebranded into the friendly "micropub".
They are two very different concepts though. A micropub is usually focussed on craft beer, at some expense. Front room pubs were watering holes not bothered or encumbered by quality.

I feel for the staff and certainly not the brand though I understand it will upset many "people".
But hey, this is a Cadbury Schweppes brand we are talking about, so no surprises. Fuck em.

Try to keep up at the back, it hasn't been part of Cadbury Schweppes since 1986. :D

Owned by a private equity company, just as bad. By cheap, liquidate the assets and fold without paying debts.
Isn't that how they work?

TBF, it looks like it was on it's knees, back in 2020, before being sold to Zetland Capital/

I am not a massive tea drinker but stuff like I this I always go supermarket own brand because it’s cheaper

Everyone goes on about Yorkshire tea but I don’t really know the difference. Most of the tea I’ve had this year has been whatever tea bag was in the hotel i was staying at

Yorkshire Tea make far superior decaf. But otherwise I can't get that excited about what tea I buy. Whatever is on offer.

Ah maybe that’s true. I’ve never tried the decaf.

Having a cup of tea isn’t culturally significant for me really, I know some folk have 10 or more cups a day so would have decaf perhaps later in the day. I only usually have one at other peoples houses if they don’t have proper coffee.
