A little jewel amongst the shitIt's such a shame, when I lived in MK I'd sometimes come to Northampton to shop.
Now I live a couple of miles away I hardly ever go there.
Sometimes pop into the Museum and Gallery - I really like what they've done to it.
A little jewel amongst the shit

But can you afford one at those prices? The high street where I live is full of estate agents, charity shops, coffee shops, outrageously expensive women's clothes shops, hairdressers andjunkantique shops. At the top end of town, a lot of former shops are now just houses. There is nowhere you can get shoes mended (used to have 2 cobblers), no hardware store (had 2), or children's clothes shop (there were 3 or 4), no pet shop (formerly 2) and no greengrocers (used to have 5).
It's very frustrating. I frequently find that I have to go to a town 12 miles away for really quite mundane things, as the nearest town has lost a lot of useful shops, too.
We've got a bloody Gail's though, plus 2 Costas and a Cafe Nero, plus several independent coffee shops.
Thankfully, we still have plenty of pubs. You need a drink when you've just been in a shop where they want £18 for a pair of socks.

As a baby gay, I would spend quite a while marching around town finding any newsagents that didn't mind me furtively pawing through Vulcan or euroboy or the like.I can remember when you use to go into a newsagent and the top shelf was porn from one end to the other, these days it's all fishing and model railways.
Sadly, yes. Been killed off by mini aupermarketsEven the ones that there are often don’t have very many newspapers or magazines.
I always remember Currys as being the out of town version of Dixons, as I think they were part of the same group.Aren't Currys/PC World another that's concentrating on massive shipping centres or out of town shopping?
There's still a branch in town here - or was. I would have walked past it today but it didn't register either way. Will check next time I'm there.Massive Curry's store in Nottingham city centre closing down. They have always been a bit shit but we're still worse of without them.

Car wash services are filthy for that. Not that it seems to concern the government(s). Don't go trying to help them like a hero either, you will get them in trouble. The worker will get punished and disappear.Any shop or business that’s regarded as ripe for laundering is also usually a modern slavery risk too
I know someone who is a modern slavery enforcement researcher, they don’t share a lot about their job understandably but believe the aim is to go for the bosses not the workers.Car wash services are filthy for that. It's an open secret and a law enforcement issue. Still goes on.I know someone who is a modern slavery enforcement researcher, they don’t share a lot about their job understandably but believe the aim is to go for the bosses not the workers.
You don't think 'American' car wash labourers are slaves, or you think it unseemly and socially disadvantagous on U 75?
Ok. There's Car Washes. Like they are promoted as 'american' or whatever. But the workers are basically slaves. I think that is wrong. That there shouldn't be slaves in our country in 2025.Not sure what you’re getting at, but time for bed surely.
yes. that didn't need explaining. never mindOk. There's Car Washes. Like they are promoted as 'american' or whatever. But the workers are basically slaves. I think that is wrong. That there shouldn't be slaves in our country in 2025.
