Hurricane Sandy - "Perfect Storm"

I'd love it! We have boring storms in Britain :(

Oh look, a static caravan has been blown over and a roof tile hit Rene from Allo Allo in the head.<snip>
Were you too young and too far north to fully appreciate Hurricane Hugo? Tough shit. If you want 'interesting storms' piss off to one of the places which gets hurricanes etc every year.

"Don't worry about anybody getting out," is Bloomberg's response to a question about plans for inmates at Rikers Island.

So bleak looking, you'd think that was a British beach :(

A normal summer's day to compare

No I remember it and I remember how shit it was, few chimney stacks and trees blown over, Michael Fish getting it wrong. Wasn't a real hurricane.

Boring! I want to experience at least one storm of apocalyptic proportions before I leave this mortal coil.

Hurricane Bawbag was the only time I've actually been frightened of the wind in Scotland. Cat 3 hurricane.

More than a few, sweetie. And you forgot to mention seeing traffic light poles swaying in the wind, railway station roofs being blown in (eg. Liverpool Lime St), or the dubious delights of getting blown along the road even while wearing something more or less skintight.

Too far East by a few thousand miles, you mean? :hmm:

Hurricane Hugo effected The UK?
No sweetie, it affected the UK, although I grant you a lot of the trees were only blown over because there'd been such heavy rain shortly before it, and a lot of them were still in full leaf. Have a google for some of the pictures of the damage.

Liverpool never looked better 8)

Maybe 88. Hang on... yes 88, because I got my hair cut short the day before the storm.

Right, so there was the Great Storm (not hurricane) of 1987
An as yet unidentified storm of 1988
and Hurricane Hugo in 1989

:D

I'll see if I can figure out what the 1988 one was

ahhh the great storm. our local church got a spiffing new window after that.

Yep, it did wonders for urban regeneration across the country but it wasn't anything like you get in the states for example. Must be an incredible experience. I saw a massive electrical storm in Canada, huge forked lightening, hailstones the size of golf balls. Was brilliant, something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
