Hurricane Sandy - "Perfect Storm"

Has any Republican/Tea party preacher nutjob blamed gay people for the coming storm yet?
Yes:

On his website Defend Proclaim The Faith, the preacher says the gathering storm must be God’s judgment on gays, and punishing the president Barack Obama for coming out in support of marriage equality.
He believes ever since George Bush Sr signed the Madrid Peace Process to divide the land of Israel in 1991, ‘America has been under God’s judgment since this event.’
McTernan said: ‘Obama is 100% behind the Muslim Brotherhood which has vowed to destroy Israel and take Jerusalem.
‘Both candidates are pro-homosexual and are behind the homosexual agenda. America is under political judgment and the church does not know it!’
His reasoning for this is that it has been 21 years since the ‘perfect storm’ of October 1991.
’21 years breaks down to 7 x 3, which is a significant number with God. Three is perfection as the Godhead is three in one while seven is perfection,’ he said.

Ocean City, NJ, apparently

Bloomberg is focusing much on its coverage on a huge crane in NYC which looks like its going to topple when the hurricane hits.

The storm’s quicker-than-expected forward motion means it will make landfall about two hours sooner than previously anticipated. Landfall is now expected around 6 p.m. this evening, near or just south of Atlantic City, N.J. This doesn’t change the forecast much for coastal New Jersey, but it could greatly complicate coastal flooding projections for New York Harbor.
At the National Hurricane Center’s 2 p.m. update, maximum sustained winds near the center came in at 90 mph, with gusts over 100 mph possible across a wide section of the storm from New Jersey to Rhode Island. The storm’s center sits about 110 miles off New Jersey, or about 175 miles southeast of New York City. Given Sandy’s size, however, tropical-storm conditions are occurring or will occur later tonight from the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula in Delaware all the way north into Maine.
Low tide had already occurred by 3 p.m. for most of Greater New York, including coastal New Jersey, New York Harbor and the south shore of Long Island. Tides in Long Island Sound are offset by a few hours because of its unique geography. For the next six or so hours, we will see water levels rise quickly and significantly.
The most reliable surge forecasts are now underestimating the surge in Lower Manhattan by about a foot. My interpretation of this data is that the surge is occurring a bit earlier than the model thinks, which would mean that the peak surge in New York Harbor could now arrive nearly simultaneously as the high tide crests.

I'm back...did you miss me?

power went out. well, it's still out at my house but I'm at my studio around the corner.

I did go down to the beach  because it still didn't seem that bad out and lots of cars still on the road.
Got there just as it was getting bad  took a couple of crappy vids and went back home.
