Hurricane Irma

All her stuff is in the house (which I've been to it's right by a coastal area/flood zone) and they had to rush at the last second, they were getting calls saying they had to evacuate. Where they've gone to is more inland, but not very afaik :(

They won't carry many supplies, the RAF should've sent some Hercules type planes.

Very good. :D

Do the tornadoes have anything to do with the hurricane or are the separate events? Where are they happening?

You asking this clueless fuckwit?

According to CNN they pop-up on the edges of the main storm, currently popping up on the east coast, north of Miami, whilst Irma herself is fucking up the west coast.

Are those pictures of the water rushing past Miami skyscrapers real or fake? It looks absolutely horrible.

She's OK - they keep on losing power so its kind of intermittent whether she texts back. She says its really windy outside :D

I've experienced, first hand, three hurricanes, and six tornadoes. My prayers are with everyone, everywhere, going through this.

I got through to one of my friends in Ocala. The eye should pass them relatively safely. Great news.

Oh, that's real, but is nothing like what they are forecasting for the west coast, if they are to be believed, Miami has basically got a dripping tap.

The surge for Miami is forecast at around 3 feet, 15 foot or more on the west coast.

GSHO.

Storm surge is the leading cause of death in hurricanes, followed by freshwater flooding. Actual wind deaths tend to be a much smaller competent. Haiyan and Katrina being cases in point.

Prepare for a Storm Surge

Very unlikely. It would require door to door coverage of 5 million people.
I was thinking more percentage rather than an exact headcount, but you are right, perhaps there is no way to know.

I heard on the radio earlier 'and a pregnant woman had to deliver her own baby after emergency workers couldn't get to her' and wondered why she hadn't left when very clearly advised. It doesn't get much starker than 'if you dial 911 nobody will answer'

Lot of the poor people, like in New Orleans, have no real chance to evacuate. Others have good storm proof houses and some are just dumb sitting in McMansions about to become McMatchsticks.

Looks like the eye is between 30 to 40 miles wide and NOAA reports it was moving at 12 knots (about 14 miles an hour)
If that's right and you survived Irma's arrival you could be in the calm of the eye for a couple of hours before the wind hit you from the other direction!
