How has the Olympics started before the opening ceremony?

Am in a time warp..? I seem to have spent the last 45 minutes watching a cracking game of football between Argentina and the Ivory Coast. I thought the games kicked off on the 08.08.08?

Couple of the womens football matches took place yesterday and today IIRC.

Probably a scheduling thing. I wouldn't worry about it

Seems a bit weird tho. I mean I just clicked on the China V NZ game and the bird's nest is absolutely rocking. A day before the opening ceremony.

The smog looks pretty hardcore.

It was the preliminary rounds for the football. When i saw some of it it kinda bored me,i just want to see ronaldinho play for brazil.
