Olympics closing ceremony on TV now.

To be fair though, even given their insane medal count, how many Chinese athletes could you name? Suspect this will change over the coming years.

Or how many US athletes, given that their insane medal count was bigger than the Chinese insane medal count.

Hard to kick a soccer ball off a red post box.

Surely not!

Ta, can do.

china or countless other countries that don't pay attention to F1,

*cough*

F1's weakest territory is the US; it's a huge TV sport, with each GP getting about a billion global eyes on it; huge in the ME and ASEAN nations too, which is why all the new GP circuits are in places like Bahrain and...China.

These threads are funny. Loads of people steaming in with comments about X person not being well known and really not knowing what the fuck they're talking about...

You have to give him credit though, some people keep their skeletons in a closet, he takes his to matches.

/yes, it's old. I apologise.

On DBs fame...

Manchester United are the biggest soccer brand in the world. Becks was world famous while he was still at Man U, before he moved to Madrid.

Indeed, the story of the Beckhams is how he hitched himself to her while she was the megastar and he the son rising, and since then their situations have reversed. Also, of the two of them she's the publicity whore I reckon...

Hasn't got a lot to do with Olympic sport, though?

David Beckham plays in a sport in which we don't even compete, and is not even based in Britain. He only became famous around the world when he started playing in the States. That film, Bend It Like Beckham, was even released under a different name because of that :)

What on earth are you blabbering about?

And I dare say the IOC would not have us believe that Olympic ideals are limited solely to the sporting contests we just saw over the two weeks.

I know that two elderly women who applied for a govt permit to conduct a lawful protest concerning the destruction of their homes, with the protest to be carried out in the govt sanctioned protest area, were summarily arrested and thrown into prison.

The mere act of applying for the permit, was their crime.

I'm aware of that sad case.
Oh hum that's totalitarian governments for you.
Maybe they could use "things can only get better" as a theme song. :D
