Helicopter crashes into glasgow pub

Eyewitnesses said they thought the rotors weren't turning and the engine was 'spluttering' as it fell.
Thanks - hadn't spotted that in the reports. Not saying that's not what happened, but I'd take any eyewitness reports with a lot of salt at this point. Past 'dramatic' events have shown how much people remember what they expect to remember iykwim.

Wonder what the model is? Sounds like mechanical failure of some kind (gearbox perhaps?).

One of these apparently. Eurocopter EC135 T2+

Apparently a witness on BBC news said that people in the pub were joking about the band bringing the roof down. Fingers crossed it might not be quite as bad as it initially seemed. Early days, though.

"Amazing. #Glasgow Band kept on playing after chopper hit #Clutha roof, woman tells BBC."We joked they'd brought the roof down". Then it fell"

This time of year and engine splutter I'd go with contaminated fuel, someone left it overnight with half full tanks and the moisture in the air gap turned to water when it got cold

Temperature's been dropping throughout the day here, it's very cold.

There was a very nasty crash involving a police helicopter back in the 1990s. There was supposed to be loads of procedures put in place to deal with helicopter flights in cold weather. There was another crash in 2002 in cold weather.

Possibly were 3 in the helicopter. Twitter is saying some may be dead (not sure if just helicopter people or others from the pub). :(

Until the police give a statement about injuries/deaths, it's just speculation, and possibly not helpful to the families of anyone who was known to be in the pub at the time though.

Many reports now seem to be saying that it might have landed on the roof, as opposed to crashing straight through, and then the roof caved in because of the weight. That gels with what the people in the pub were saying about the band continuing to play. Perhaps the pilots thought it was a safer bet to try for the flat roof than land in the river.

Girl who was in watching the band was just on sly news.
Said it all happened slow. Heard a whoosh then a cloud dust. then after a bit the roof slowly collapsed in.

Injured been taken to the Royal Infirmary and the Southern General. That suggests quite a lot of injured :(

Not necessarily. Major incident plans will kick in with something like an urban helicopter crash, and that could well include spreading casualties between centres in case there turn out to be lots of them, even before any idea of numbers is known - iyswim.

Iirc the music is down left side snug and loos on right, looks like it went in over the central bar stretch

Hope so.

NHS Greater Glasgow is currently in the process of consolidating/rationalising hospitals. At least one A&E will be lost north of the Clyde, with the Southern General becoming a major complex. Makes me wonder how the infrastructure will cope with a major incident like this with fewer trauma centres.

That's happening all over the place. Fucking irresponsible shit, decided by people who can afford to go to their nice private hospitals in times of need.

One civilian pilot, two police officers onboard according to Police Scotland.
