Harry Roberts has been freed

In a hierarchy it's ok for some people to kill, but not others. What makes this crime so heinous in the eyes of the daily mail and its readers is that three people who serve the highest level of hierarchy were slain by someone at the lowest level. That sort of shit scares them.

I can't speak for DM types but for me what makes it so heinous is the fact that he viciously murdered 3 men in cold blood. The fact that they were coppers is neither here nor there.

It wasn't cold blood. He felt threatened by them. Out of interest what are your views of his killings done on behalf of the state?

I find it loathsome that the comfortable police the poor on behalf of the wealthy. The Harry Roberts case is an extreme example of where that can lead. Of course fortunately most other people just put up with it.

I can agree with your first with few reservations but attaching a murderous shitbag like Roberts to the cause probably isn't a great move.

Like when Harry Roberts was killing Commies on behalf of the state it was fine. When he used those same skills taught by the state (and following the state's dog eat dog modus operandi) against the state it wasn't fine.

...bit like Idi Amin really...

1952 - He serves in the British action against the Mau Mau revolt in Kenya (1952-56) and is described by officials as "a splendid type and a good (rugby) player, but virtually bone from the neck up, and needs things explained in words of one letter."

One former commander remembers Amin "as a splendid and reliable soldier and a cheerful and energetic man." Another former commander describes Amin as "an incredible person who certainly isn't mad - very shrewd, very cunning and a born leader."

1959 - He is made a warrant officer with the rank of 'effendi', a position specially created by the colonial army for noncommissioned Africans with leadership potential.

1961 - He rises to the rank of lieutenant, becoming one of only two native Ugandans to be commissioned during British rule.

..."blowback" I think the technical term is...

If i remember right there was a big search for him ,he had gone to ground. The joke at the time was they found harry roberts they pressed button b and four coppers rolled out,you need to remember the old phone system

By the way, this is around the time that I like to relax. So anyone whipping themselves into a frenzy about anything I've said hours ago are unlikely to elicit a response.

Who was that being interviewed on Radio around 6pm. He sounded like an idiot. Said rehabilitation didn't work and Harry had done it before and likely to do it again.

Whatever your views on this, the Met Police have exceeded even their own standards in idiocy.

The Metropolitan Police Federation said the decision was a "betrayal of policing" by the judicial system.

It said Roberts' planned release, approved by a Parole Board panel, was a "scandalous, hurtful and abhorrent decision which opens the door even further for those who have scant regard for law and order".

Yeah, I'm going to shoot now. Now that I know I'll only do 48 years for it.

in fairness that's the met police FEDERATION, not new scotland yard. the police federation are well known for their barking views.

I am very pleased Harry is on his way out. My view about him has never changed a jot over 30 plus years. I hope he fulfills the hopes invested in him over the many years he has been away. :)
