Hammond's Autumn (Budget) Statement 2017, due Wednesday 22nd November.

:facepalm::D
Yep. it's cash for the schools, every time they add another person who agrees to do maths a level they get £600. I find that a bit worrying, as someone who was forced to do maths way beyond my capacity and got a U. Budget: More money for schools that attract 'extra' A-level maths students

My further education went pear shaped because of how much emphasis was placed on maths well beyond GCSE level for someone like me who was interested in computer science. I was great at GCSE level maths but I failed my A level maths and probably only made it to uni because of being born during a big dip in the birth rate. And there was nothing in degree level computer science that needed A level type maths skills in the end anyway!

Phew. The diesel thing is a one-off charge on new cars. I bought a 2014 diesel in May with a vague assumption that they were low CO2, green, and in some way subsidised. Then I started noticing articles saying that diesel owners were anti-social particulate-spraying bastards, likely to be issued with punitive fines.

Also some interesting changes to benefits such as housing benefit to be paid for an additional two weeks to universal credit claimants. I'm under no illusion that this is for the benefit of the claimant.

£1.5bn extra to help sort out universal credit debacle.

I'm similar, difference being that mine is an Audi so I know that I'm an anti-social bastard :thumbs:

It’s actually likely to increase house prices so more likely to benefit selling bourgeoisie.
This is shiate, I'm on £24k a year which is about the median average (not the mean which is distorted by a few wankers on £millions), the existing exception was £125K which is around the most I could hope to "afford", How many first time buyers can afford something like a £30-45K deposit and a £250K mortgage ? this is only going to benefit a small number of people who don't need it.

Perhaps obvious to all here, but this was a stinking nothing of a budget. Nothing all round for everyone (except a few rich people, obviously). Nothing to address social care crisis, nothing to address failing mental health services, no pay rise announced for NHS workers (or for anyone else of course), a few peanuts to help slow (but not stop) the decline of the NHS, a few peanuts to rescue their own failing and brutal UC scheme.

The biggest measures seem to be to support developers to build lots of market price housing, presumably on green belt land.

No surprise of course, but in other words it's another death budget. Those who are dying due to Tory cuts can continue to do so untroubled by any intervention.

btw, I'm going to take a wild guess about where the extra money for universal credit will go. The landlords have complained y'see. They will be inconvenienced by the lateness of payments. Extra money is therefore required to improve processes to make sure that landlords don't get into financial difficulties. Tories are so predictable, I'll buy everyone on this thread a pint if I turn out to be wrong.
