Hackney chitter-chatter &tc

some good news.

what used to be Birthdays then Brewdog then something else is turning into a replacement for the Glory when that's closing down.

Knew the Glory was closing and they were reopening somewhere else but didn't know it was there! The current location is a bit no man's land really. Being near the Dalston Superstore and VFB will probably work well for them

Just a heads up for anyone planning on taking the bus into town. All the buses that take Roseberry Ave/Clerkenwell Rd are on diversion both ways (the road's closed at their junction as there's a huge crane doing stuff).

The 38's turning off at Exmouth Market, going down Faringdon Rd then back round Grays Inn Rd. Guess the 243 and 55 are doing something similar.

Yeah I've never got round to starting a TH thread, I just squat in this one. :D

There's a new development there just getting started, they're finished now. Pic is from 2019.

I did a little ink and pencil drawing of that white building, from the other side of the canal.
I believe it's been restored now and little flat-lets are available for an astronomical amount of rent.

Another day another shoddy school in Stamford Hill. Faith school banning parts of geography lessons, Ofsted finds
From that article/report:

'Ofsted said the school also fails to teach "statutory content" in relationships and sex education (RSE), including concepts such as "sexual consent, sexual exploitation, grooming and abuse". This approach means pupils are left "unprepared for life in modern Britain", Ofsted said.

In 2021, a report from Jewish counter-extremism group Nahamu highlighted how a lack of RSE contributes to forced marriage in strictly-Orthodox Jewish communities.

During a previous inspection, school leaders told Ofsted that "no aspect" of sex education is taught in the school, not even "reproduction in the context of an academic subject like science".

The school has been rated "inadequate" since 2016.'

I still don't understand why they let these inadequate schools remain open. Well I do but it's maddening to think of all these children who're being massively failed.

Yes, it's not good is it.
I remember watching a short video (can't remember where now) about a young guy who had left the strict Orthodox community, he was trying to catch up on general studies of various subjects that he previously had no idea about to enable him to get a decent job.

This building in Dalston has been shortlisted in the Architecture Awards..

I had to look it up as I couldn't place where it is 🤔 ...it's in Bradbury Street, Gillett Square!
Not quite sure what to think about it, must go and have a look.

'What have i done? I'm part of it aren't I? I used to be different, fun, not care about money, i used to fight, oppose and resist. My life was so much better then. Where did it all go so wrong, and why am I stuck in this rut now? 😥 '
Just so. In the mornings as I gaze out of the bus windows at the people going to work I think rather the opposite of that, 'where did you all go wrong' etc

Whoop whoop, it's a probably unwise intervention into the Overground renaming shitshow:

We'll get used to the names (as we did with the rebranded Elizabeth line) I'd have preferred them named after the various underground rivers - like the Fleet - a few of them cross paths with them.

Interesting stuff there about the Irish becoming "white" 🤔 My dad lived in London in the early 60s, around about the time of No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs. I think he basically boarded at houses owned by Irish . Later on when he moved to Bath , he drank at the Longacre Tavern , which was basically the only black owned pub in Bath, the paddies liked it because it had a liberal approach to licencing laws😅 . I remember in the 90s drinking in a pub in Finsbury Park Station which was an Irish/Black pub.

So very sad, I wonder what on earth has gone on there, a 16 year old boy too, for goodness sake :(

New charges have been brought linked to the fatal shooting of Lianne Gordon.

On 27 February 2024, Elijah Sereki, 20, of Worsley Grove, E5, was charged with possession of a bladed article in relation to an alleged incident in Vine Close on 1 October 2023.

Elijah Sereki was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent, possession of a bladed article and affray in relation to an alleged incident in Rendlesham Road on 2 December 2023.

A 16-year-old boy, who was previously charged with the murder of Lianne Gordon and the attempted murder of a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy in Vine Close, has additionally been charged with the same offences as Elijah Sereki.

The two alleged incidents on 1 October 2023 and 2 December 2023, are being investigated by the detectives leading enquiries into the murder of Ms Gordon.
