Growing an Anarchist Movement

Because socialism isn't about central control.

Because socialism isn't always about central control; but sometimes it is and then it would seem to have a few democratic hurdles to jump through if it was to seek common cause with many anarchists.

Cheers - Louis MacNeice

If one had a 'socialist' government would the policies be negotiable among the electorate? What mechanisms do socialists use to implement their policies?

See Louis' amendment to my post above.

Socialism (to me) is about people having control of their own workplaces and communities.

That "socialists", "radicals" and "left-wingers" are the enemy, just about sums up the arrogance, elitism, and sectarianism of most anarchists on here.

Thankfully, there are much more sensible anarchists out there.

How is anarchy ever supposed to work if youre all so damned disagreeable

I agree with you Blagsta. My sentiments too. Community socialism. What I don't buy into is so called government socialism. Unless I am mistaken anarchy is about rolling back the state - the total opposite of what is the current, pretend socialist (laughs) government.

Anarchism isn't just about rolling back the state, otherwise Thatcher would be an anarchist. Free market types have recently tried to claim anarchism for themselves, but they have to present a distorted history of anarchist ideas to do so.

The current government doesn't even pretend to be socialist, never has.

It's not so much that it's been done before that's brought most of these responses shevek, it's because the OP looks like a variant on:

It shows that you don't really get it yet. Lifestyle anarchism is an insult rather than a 'recognised' branch of anarchism like anarchist-communism or anarcho-syndicalism - both of which include already and are concerned with life outside of work anyway, which is what i guess you were trying to get at. Serious question, have you left the lib-dems yet? You need to do that before you're going to get any further in all honesty. I wouldn't particularly recommend here or past debates on here as any sort of guide either.

I dont agree that I don't get it. Ive read loads of Chomsky and I comprehend it. I think its unfair to compare me to a Tory.

I wasn't comparing you to a tory! Look at my post again, i compared the structure of the argument that you made to my example - a sensible straightforward post undone by something daft and revealing at the end. I know that you're not a tory, you're a lib-dem.

soz! I only made the reference to lifetsyle anarchism because everytime Ive talked about anarcho-syndicalism people on here have said 'its not all about work'.

I must admit I am still in the lib dems so I am fence sitting to be frank. Maybe I should make up my mind one way or the other.

I am more of an anarchist but my partner encouraged me to join the lib demmers a few years back. Its hard to get out of to be honest

Yeah, like once you're on the committee at the local golf club, people jsut expect you to keep doing it

Err, parliamentary politics and support for the UK state is likely to contravene most peoples' ideas of what anarchism is, I woulda thought

its just when your partner is an avid lib demmer its quite hard to get out of it.

lolololololol. Yes! kind of. He is quite liberal and I do agree with him on a lot of things but I am probably more radical than he is.
