It doesn't get much better than this. France lost yesterday. Germany lost today. Spain have been beaten. If England win then it has to go down as the best week of world cup results for us English since 1966.

Things that remain to be dreamt about. Ronaldo sent off for diving. New Zealand manage a good passing move involving more than three players. Uruguay go through a game without anyone being booked. Carragher scores a hat trick against Slovenia.

And the Slovenians, that's one half of the former Yugoslavia. Germany are looking eminently beatable. Should be a good game. Old rivals and all.

I was counting Croatia. Croatia plus Slovenia equals approximately half of the former Yugoslavia. This means we will beat Germany 2-1
