The USMC seems to've misplaced a $100 million do1lar aircraft

Well that's pretty careless. I'm sure the other branches of the military will be very understanding and not take the piss at all. :D

By the way bcuster, it is (mostly) traditional on these boards that we don't link to The Sun, it is considered a non paper for various reasons but mostly the following. As an American I wouldn't necessarily expect you to know that so just passing on the info. :)

The headlines and sub-headlines on the front page of The Sun newspaper on the Wednesday following the disaster were as follows:
“The Truth.
Some fans picked pockets of victims
Some fans urinated on the brave cops
Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life.”
So just four days after their loved ones had died, four days after they had narrowly escaped death themselves, Liverpool supporters were confronted with those headlines. People actually believed those headlines. Those who were there did not believe the headlines of course, nor did those who knew people who had been there. Unfortunately though a lot of people did believe those headlines; people who were not Liverpool supporters, perhaps supporters of another team or people who did not follow football at all. The headlines sewed seeds in so many people’s minds that the 96 supporters died at the hands of their own kind. All lies, all proven to be lies, yet never put right by that publication.

I do remember being advised of that before. Please accept my apologies. I'm in the US and don't follow UK news sourcing closely. I'll do better in the future...

I can’t even remember anymore if it was a plane or some other piece of advanced US military kit, but whatever happened about that US airplane/ missile/ whatever that sank to the bottom of sea, somewhere near China I believe, and resulted in a wacky race to the bottom between the US and China to find it first? Or have I imagined the whole thing?

2 x T6 Harvard/Texan crashed on landing at The Reno Air Race. :(

I heard this on the radio over morning coffee. what a way to start the day. and it led me to ask for the nth time: why are there air shows? there are only two outcomes: 1, it worked; 2, death. if 1, well it's supposed to. if 2, I'd rather not voluntarily watch a life spectacularly snuffed out.

It'll be in the last place they look.
You'd hope so

Bound to be some people keeping an eye out for it who don't know its been found.

I had looked in the hall cupboard which is where most things I don't know where they've gone turn up.

One less thing to remember next time I go to the garage

I've been to a few and haven't seen any accidents, (I did see a Mustang nearly ground loop but he caught it just in time). There is an element of risk involved but you could say the same about motor racing.

I was upside down in a plane 2 weeks ago and was fully aware of the risks but it felt like it was worth it, I may not have felt the same whilst plummeting towards the ground if it had all gone wrong but it never happens to "you" does it?

Also has to be said Reno air races is a spectacularly dangerous activity and not really like a typical air show. Seems like they are looking for a new home so you may not be the only person wondering why it's allowed.

Some stuff has an inherent danger that people will accept to an extent, though I think we’re becoming more risk averse. When I was younger they used to do powerboat racing in Bristol Docks, supposedly the most dangerous course in the world at the time due to the tightness of the circuit. It seemed fairly normal for people to die every so often doing it, like it was an accepted risk. They removed a jetty that was the cause of several crashes in the end, before giving up the whole thing. It just seems mental in retrospect.
