Whilst congress falls over itself in an effort to ensure that Israel receives a $225 million aid package, it may be that Obama is getting a little tired of Bibi & co:

The conversation between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama was tense and tough, according to a report on Channel 1 Tuesday evening.

Based on a transcript of the conversation, obtained by Israel’s channel 1, Obama “behaved in a rude, condescending and hostile manner,” the network’s foreign correspondent concluded.

During the 35-minute conversation on Sunday, the president reportedly demanded that Israel should immediately and unconditionally end the operation.

When Netanyahu asked what Israel would get in return for unilaterally ending the strikes, Obama replied: “I believe Hamas will stop firing rockets – quiet in return for quiet.” To which Netanyahu responded that Hamas has already violated 5 cease-fires and is committed to the destruction of Israel.

“I repeat and expect Israel to stop all of its actions against Hamas in Gaza,” Obama said. He added that despite Netanyahu’s objections the United States trusts Qatar and Turkey’s mediation. “Israel is not in a situation that it can choose its mediators,” the president told his Israeli counterpart.

Netanyahu in response: “Hamas will continue firing rockets on Israel and use their tunnels to attack our people.”

At this point, Obama interrupted the Israeli leader, stating, “the ball is in Israel’s court, and it must end all military activities.”

Did anyone just see Michael Oron on Channel 4 news? Again, it's incredible, absolutely incredible these people can say what they say with a straight face.

He even said 'I'm not making a propaganda point but Hamas are using human shields'

More good stuff from Massive Attack

Massive Attack have spoken of their ‘love and commitment’ to supporting the plight of young Palestinian refugees after the political band visited the Bourj el-Barajneh refugee camp in Lebanon yesterday [28 July].

Members Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall were taken on a tour of the Al Naqab Center, run by Palestinian volunteers. The center, which offers remedial classes, a meeting place for active youth and other social activities, has primarily been set up for Palestinians who have recently arrived from war-torn Syria.

Tonight (29 July), they will stage a concert in Lebanon in collaboration with the Hoping Foundation, part of the proceeds of which will go towards Al Naqab, as well as funding the building of a new public library in a separate camp in the north of the country and supporting the ambulance service in Gaza.

"We have been working with HOPING since 2005 doing gigs for the children of Palestine, so it really thrilling for us to be able to finally meet some of the brilliant young Palestinians we have been working with," Robert Del Naja said.....

The service personnel and people throughout the country broke into angry shouts that a stern judgment of the revolution should be meted out to the anti-party, counter-revolutionary factional elements.

If you are going to indulge in grim parody Froggie, I keep being reminded of the fascistic regime in the the film and book 'Starship troopers'. The only trouble is that Palestinians have been exchanged for bugs that want to kill us all.

When Ariel Sharon went into a coma so suddenly and untimely to our sorrow, he began working in real earnest to realize its long-cherished greed for power.

Abusing the honor of often accompanying Netanyahu during his field guidance, Obama tried hard to create illusion about him by projecting himself internally and externally as a special being on a par with the headquarters of the revolution.

the Hamas terrorists were so imprudent as to prevent the Tel Aviv Tile Factory from erecting a mosaic depicting Netanyahu and Sharon and a monument to field guidance given by them. Moreover, Hamas turned down the unanimous request of the service personnel of a unit of the Israeli People's Defence Forces to have the autograph letter sent by Netanyahu to the unit carved on a natural granite and erected with good care in front of the building of its command. Hamas were so reckless as to instruct the unit to erect it in a shaded corner. and then to fire rockets at it

Following this thread and the news makes me feel mawkish impotent and disgusted. Israel doesn't care how many children they kill. There will never be a lifting of the blockade, never a two state solution - we are past that now. They want a greater Israel without Palestinians spoiling it for them and they plan to get it through the power of the gun. I considered writing to my MP, but it would only produce a smarmy response from a flunky, I don't buy Israeli goods so a boycott seems irrelevant, impotence is not a nice feeling.

GAZA (Reuters) - Using tunnels, mines, booby traps and snipers, Hamas fighters have inflicted record casualties on Israeli troops waging an offensive in the Gaza Strip, applying years of training in urban warfare with a new tactical acumen and suicidal resolve.
The Israelis say weapons and know-how supplied by Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah make Hamas a more formidable foe.

......The IDF cant drop bunker busters to destroy those tunnels, thousands would be killed and if they attempt to clear then they could lose hundreds of troops. The Israeli tactic is hit civilians and grind them down with psychological warfare, drones, explosions, flares etc to make them put pressure on Hamas for peace, similar to the British in Ireland using gangs to shoot innocent Catholics to put pressure on the IRA.

By holding them Hamas are winning. Israel only has limited time to destroy them.

The Iranians have built networks of thousands of similar tunnels under urban areas, hence the US militaries Asymmetric warfare Group has now started training subterranean warfare.
