Yes, really shitty:

Freedom Press ‏@Freedom_Paper
BREAKING: Freedom was firebombed last night. No-one hurt, upstairs is okay but shop and electrics have been seriously damaged.

Not much to be done today, but plan for cleanup and appeal for cash (no insurance coverage sadly) will be getting sorted out asap.
Fucking hell. Sorry to hear this.

Bloody hell. Hope the clear-up goes as well as it can.
I don't know how to stop this apart from keeping stock in peoples' homes but that might not be practical. Perhaps a move towards more book-swapping? Or a non-centralised book-lending and selling system, if night-time attacks start to recur. Obviously no way of avoiding the physical space being screwed up with a firebomb attack.
The insurance losses aspect is a real step back. :(

If, as has been reported, lots of books have gone that would mean the thing got going properly rather than just a craply made one spluttering out on contact.

When Unity Bookshop in Brixton was firebombed in 1973 the whole thing was destroyed. Anything irreplaceable shouldn't been in these kinds of sites - obvious magnets for the far-right, I hope there was nothing lost forever to humankind.

If more people bought fro freedom the storage of stock would cease being an issue

You have a point. I find the situation upsetting that there is no insurance but again that's probably due to insufficient income to be able to afford it.

Yep, I imagine that the premiums would be so high as to make insurance a bit of a no-goer.

Labour promised in 1973 but failed to deliver nationalisation of the insurance industry (for uniform premiums).
Desperate situation.

Tbh I was only 12 then and didn't really notice the insurance thing, I don't think we ever had any even then  I think that was the year we got done for not having a TV licence though. Mum had to go to court and got a fine.

It's OK. I wasn't expecting a personal response. :) I have zero interest in discussing my personal childhood here to be honest, I don't expect it of anyone else.
I don't have any (insurance) now. :hmm:

It was around the time of the "fundamental and irreversible shift in the balance of power and wealth in favour of working people and their families" promise, that would mean lots of "howls of anguish" from the rich.

Donations thread given a sticky at the top of this forum, fingers crossed it'll drive more traffic and donations.

Butchers, serious question - does this worry you at all?

According to the Guardian article their insurance lapsed just a week ago.
