Foodbanks

If the Libdems do as badly as expected Clegg will probably stand down as leader, and Milliband might go into coalition with a new libdem leader.
I don't see Clegg losing his seat. I hope he does, but people like him will have enough support to survive. Same with scum like IDS. Labour could make Clegg standing down as a condition of coalition, but wasn't the reverse with Gordon Brown the case last time?

Although that'll depend on how many Lib-Dummies split off and join the Tories (shades of "National LIberals"!), and whether any LD rump is worth the candle.

IIRC Clegg's majority in 2010 was pretty soundly based on his constituency's high student population, and the fact that the LDs had consistently talked a good fight with regard to student finance. He doesn't have that behind him this time. He may lose a third or more of the votes he got in 2010.

Some prick reporter at the Mail has done a brave exposé of the evil of food banks, and how he was able to get three days' of food with 'no questions asked' (despite, erm, being asked questions if you read the article).

What kind of disgusting piece of filth takes money to write this kind of shit? Is this what are brave press should be attacking in these times? This one's not for hanging come the revolution, they get the black & decker.

Yep, that's the guy. All round nasty piece of work then.

Rather foolishly he had his phone number on Twitter, but has since deleted all his tweets.

BBC News had a package about food banks in the Highlands, real poverty with many couldn't afford to heat the food up,

goodness knows how they cope with the cold in the winter?:(

This is real U.S style degradation: how can it be any sort of problem that someone gets a bit of food to tide them over, its looks like the general election is going to be a very nasty one,

still, its obvious the right can see the dangers for them in the growth of food banks and the attendant bad publicity.

“[The Trussell Trust is engaged in] fairly misleading and emotionally manipulative publicity seeking”
“It’s not entirely surprising given Chris Mould is effectively running a business.”

Whitehall source about U.K foodbanks, PS say the DWP

Yes, a business the DWP and Smith released funds for, now they are angry when it won't do their bidding is honest.

this sort of thing happened with some of the workhouses, etc, they went native and provided information valuable to social reformers.

Hatchet job on food banks by those cunts at the Daily Mail.

Pardon the language, but this has made me furious

People contribute to food banks; poor people go and use those food banks, mind you own fucking business Mail. The comments are largely hateful bile as well. Utter utter pricks

The bigots, misanthropes, etc have just been waiting for something like this, they have been largely silent, now they can spew their righteous bile in huge amounts.

This hate-filled narrative is evolving from demonising unemployed people who have widescreen televisions to directly attacking people who are given a loaf of bread, and those who make a decision to give them a loaf of bread.

A small bag of survival rations. How very date they, the indolent scum.

I had a mum crying on the phone to me last week. A couple who overstayed their visa and had two kids here, all paperwork is sitting with the Home Office. They are being evicted. They get no benefits at all and survive on foodbank vouchers. The kids were turning up at school with a slice of bread each and "feeling faint" in class. I got the kids on free school meals, but that's it. The eviction happens on Tuesday.

I need to go for a walk to calm down. I'm actually crying now. How much of a bastard do you have to be in this society to fit in? How fucking credulous do you have to be to believe this poisonous shit?

The assault continues, this time in The Sun

Btw, the Managing Editor of the Sun, Stig Abbel thinks of himself as a liberal hipster complete with beard and skinny jeans, he was also director of the toothless Press Complaints Commission, hs is also only 34.

I take it these stories are from today? Have there been others printed in the last year or so? There's nothing they won't attack is there? What exactly will it take to satisfy them?

'Britain's 'Gulags' - Our undercover reporter given a part time job and cigarette vouchers'

'Britain's 'Death Squads' - 'They're job fairies' - Baron Freud'

If it ever came to that I honestly think that's the sort of thing these people will write. I can't even get angry at it any more. I've been listening to Chris Hedges lectures a fair bit lately and where he talks about sacrifice zones in the U.S. It seems that's happening here now too, in the north particularly. A demonised section of the population marginalised, attacked, ridiculed and left to rot. I think I'm becoming more radical than I was ten years ago. I feel like I want to get involved more now to at least resist rather than watching it all unfold before my eyes and doing nothing.

A 'generous' supply of food, no less! These places give out the barest of essentials and there are legitimate questions over the quality thereof and the MoS regards these handouts as 'generous', like they do lottery wins to rapists or housing given to overweight single mothers or something! FFS! FFS! FFS! FFS!

This is three days worth of food for a family of four FFS:

Our basket included: Warburton’s bread £1.45; apple juice £1; Fray Bentos steak & ale pie £2.49; Heinz tomato soup 89p; Loyd Grossman pasta sauce £1; Dolmio sauce £1.80; instant mashed potato 28p; creamed rice pudding 15p; long-life milk 56p; Irish stew £1.49; spaghetti rings 34p; sliced peaches in juice 35p; custard 17p; new potatoes in water 15p; plum tomatoes 34p; Silver Spoon sugar £1; tea bags £2; processed peas 21p; kidney beans 25p; tuna steaks £1.39; sardines 60p; spaghetti 16p; meatballs 45p; chocolate pudding 65p; strawberry jam 29p; bran flakes 88p; bread sauce 70p; risotto rice 99p; granola £3.75; baked beans 35p; sticky toffee pudding 65p. TOTAL: £38.35

No wonder people keep going back.

The more I think about it, the fact that the biggest selling newspaper used resources on this story indicates they do see the rise of food banks as a potential vote loser for the Condems but also that 'decent' people are on a huge scale giving to 'scroungers' not just Hope For Heroes or any other of their favoured causes rankles them and must be undermined.
