First Official Portrait of Kate Middleton

The charming young royals who were going to save the monarchy are doing a really bad job of handling PR.
I remember reading a theory MANY years ago that if Lizzie lived long enough, her death would kick off a monarchistic crisis because by then, her grandkids would have been around long enough to have become as unpopular as her kids.

That theory isn’t looking so far off right now.

So, I’ve an avoided this mostly so far. But it’s now reaching the point where I need to be able to pretend to have an opinion on it.

Can a helpful urb give me a quick précis please?
The royal soap opera is getting even more ridiculous than usual.

It does look as though none of them really know what to do without Liz around.

I don't care what you all say I'm not going to look up 'pegging'

Needs to skip (another) generation. Don't know who is up next, maybe Morrissey?
well he is - according to his own lyrics - "the 18th pale descendant of some old queen or other" so I think you may be right. Racist twat as head of state - so no change there - however we might get an improved national anthem.

Excellent article
If like me you've run out of free New Yorkers, here's an archived version I'm just about to read.

The key things I've picked up elsewhere is that it is vanishingly rare for the press agencies like AFP to issue a kill notice on a photo for fakery or anything other than eg copyright. They'll do it maybe once a year for places like Iran and North Korea, and now Kensington Palace is added to the list. It's no longer a 'trusted source' for the agencies or for national press like Graun.

Also, AFP put their heads together with Reuters et al and jointly invited the palace to share the undoctored photo with them before they issued the kill notice, but got no reply.

So the palace is an utter incompetent mess.

That could all, possibly, be just a combination of incompetence combined with a flick the Vs at the plebs sense of arrogance, and yet. And yet. . .

If you mean press agencies flicking the Vs at amateur photographers, I'd be inclined to agree. But I think the fakery is worse than a little bit of filtering and cropping, considering the palace wouldn's supply the originals. (But I don't think you meant that.)

Apparently France handles this sort of thing better as the professional photographers show a lot more solidarity and the presses refuse to accept 'handouts' of photos from sources like the Elysée if they aren't allowed to cover events themselves.

Perhaps we've been wrong about them being lizards all along? Perhaps they're like bugs with a hive mind? Now the Queen is dead the rest of them are just unable to function normally.

Yeah. Because they were so functionally normal before. That must be it. Yeah.
