Fat White Family & various offshoot bands (Moonlandingz, Insecure Men, Warmduscher, Pregoblin etc)

i like all kinds of guitar bands - my point is theres plenty of artists in all music, including rock and roll, and what i got from your post was that in order to be cool in rock and roll you have to pretend you're not doing that, as its against the spirit or something. A theoretical conversation here, nothing to do with this band.

There are no rules, anyone can do it any way they like.
I don't think Rutabowa said that you are not cool (in a band) if you show you are trying to be cool. Almost all the rock and roll bands I like do all the 'posturing', and to seriously daft degrees sometimes.
The best rock and roll bands (in my opinion) are the ones that just get on with doing whatever they like. Bringing a bit of theatre to the table can be a big bonus, but bringing no theatre might be a bands 'thing' too.
No parents, no rules!

i agree, but i was just trying to make the point that there are artists in rock, some explicitly so, some who pretend they arent trying, its all good i agree - i was just trying to counter the idea that its not somehow on to be an artist in rock, or music in general. The more aspiration to art the better the music tends to be i find - even if its pop art. Certainly most of my favourite guitar bands are blatant artists. Piss artists are good too ;)

In th3 case of the fat whites, I think they really do care about 'their art' but they also happen to be drink and drug fuck ups. I don't think they are hiding anything or pretending in any form. I can only assume that they practice super double hard, or are simply amazing, to be able to play in the state they get themselves into sometimes.

I must say i am a bit conservative and prefer the more sober gigs. the bassist can be totally astounding like a soul/reggae master with the feel, and the drummer is certainly the best live drummer i've ever seen (again for feel), so when they all come together as a band it is just like BOOM. however i also like that they can totally chaotically fuck up other shows, as every band i like does that sometimes.

The only thing that pisses me off about the band is that I'm unlikely to be able to be put them on again at the Albert.

Multi racial staff?

They seem like capable musicians, albeit trying a little too hard. Not quite as hard as their biggest fan on this thread mind you. Not a life changing band, but ok at what they do, but then so is Coldplay. I won't be queuing up for either.

Seriously? The best drummer you've ever seen? You really need to get out more man.

Hmm.. Don't sully slipknot... I don't think that little cock behind the drums will be sitting in a 360 degree revolving atlas ball anytime soon, altho given how 'influenced' they are by other, better acts, who knows.

Apparently slipknot used to keep a jar of dead birds backstage that they could sniff and induce vomiting on stage. Deffo more edgy than sticking some nutella up your pipe and wiping it over your face.

Yeah actually I take it back. Slipknot might've been terrible in a whole host of ways but as musicians they're on a different level to Fat White Family.

where's that caleb post hang on a mo

For real though, it's exactly the kind of shite I can imagine unkempt, pudgy middle-aged men who read Mojo and listen to 6Music enjoying. And thinking it makes them young again. Sad.

I go out plenty. It just doesn't chime with my experience that many people of my age, who I associate with, appreciate this sort of thing. They like house, techno, hip hop, electronic music in general. They might even like garage rock, but have the good sense to know anyone peddling a garage rock revival in 2014 isn't worth bothering with.

Fat White Family just sound boring to me. That's it. And I think without all the pseudo-edginess and myth-making nobody would bother with them, because the music is just so dull. It's for men who read Mojo and listen to 6Music, as I said. And long may they enjoy it.

Yup that's my experience too Caleb.

When I was 20 kids liked all those things too, but also quite a lot didn't, though I do realise I was in the minority in not being into that stuff .
Garage rock has been around since the 50s and has not gone away.
There has always been pop (popular) and obviously the fat whites are not mainstream.
I would not call them garage rock though.

gabi you were recently touting The Vaccines as the new saviours of british music. The cunting VACCINES! And are a big fan of that old racist cunt eric clapton. Delroy Booth i am assuming your music taste is similarly APPALLING. I am also 100% sure that neither of you have been to a fwf gig.

Hahahahahah hahhahaha you've made my day rutabowa

I'm barred from the Harley and I can't be arsed travelling to London to watch someone smear shit over their own faces whilst playing utterly generic and boring fucking moderate rock.

My taste in music is fucking great I assure you I have wide and varied tastes and I can spot hype over substance a mile away. See also: Goblin Cock, Ghost BC, Slipknot, or any other manner of "edgy" fucking shite that has promises something transgressive and exciting only to be boring as fuck once you scrape beneath the PR.

And you think I'd be likely to change my opinion if I saw them live?

Do the songs suddenly stop being utterly pedestrial 6music bilge in a live setting? I'm intrigued.

Dude. Their singer claims that 'niggers can't read'

That's enough for me thanks. Continue sucking their cock, and what the fuck is this Clapton shit? Source please?

Fuck me ageism of all stripes here. Marvelous stuff.

Not meant as an ageist thing just my dad's into like this type of dull rock and I reckon it might be right up his street.

And my dad's quite good music wise he's not some stereotype dad rock person, just this is his sort of thing.

I like rock and roll too, but I like rock and roll that's proper shitkicking energetic and frantic ie not Fat White Family.

I gave 'em a proper chance and I did listen to a lot of their stuff when I started hearing the hype a few weeks ago but for the life in me I can't see the appeal.

If there's some magical transformation that happens to the music in a live setting i'd be tempted to see them, but it doesn't seem that way.

Yeah, of course delroy. Of course. No implication of that sort intended at all.

You're a bit touchy butchers, everything alright? I hope I didn't touch a nerve.

I didn't really mean owt by it y'know. It genuinely my dad's type of music, and his tastes in music aren't really that what you'd expect of a man of 65.

(although I can see why you'd think that I did mean it in an ageist sense, you'll just have to take my word for it)

No. That is a lie. It's you that says that, repeatedly and with apparent glee, over and over in this thread, long after it has been made clear that it was reported speech and not direct speech. As evidenced by the fact that you are the ONLY person who keeps repeating the accusation, and the foul phrase.
