Fat White Family & various offshoot bands (Moonlandingz, Insecure Men, Warmduscher, Pregoblin etc)

Tell you what, rutabowa, can you explain why the dreadful, floppy haired guitarist had two mics, both of which sounded exactly the same? Other than his being a pretentious cunt, obviously...
As a soundman, I can give you one several possible explanations, but I do believe your mind is already made up.

From what I can gather it's because he's an enormous racist. (Or it might be another one tbh. Does your one have all his teeth?)

Atomic Suplex will be sharing a stage again on february 25th at the electrowerkz.... another band of which some people say I HATE THIS NOISE TAKE IT AWAY, but that another, smaller but fervent, group says THIS STRANGE SOUND IS GREAT IT MAKES ME FEEL ALIVE! tickets are selling very fast i believe.

Fat Whites pissed on Cerebral Ballzy. I saw them at separate gigs but expected much more from CB than a piss weak Joey Ramone impression. One of my great gig disappointments of last year.

You mean, if other people's taste don't align with yours then they're a bit stupid?

I reckon it's possible to recognise and appreciate a good live performance even if you don't like the band or the music or the song.

I think if you hate all three of them it's going to be difficult to 'appreciate it', though probably possible to recognise it.

That's very true. But given the context and tone of this thread that's how I read it. Furthermore, one person's fantastic live-show might be another person's try-hard borefest. Personally I'm in the camp that FWF do a better live show than they do music, based solely on the one time I saw them in the Albert. YMMV.

pretty sure i said almost the exact opposite of that, didn't i?
I AM AWARE YOU ARE NOT KEEN ON THEM! please stop clicking on this thread as it may contain content relating to them which you will not enjoy.

You did no such thing. You laid out two choices - either you like this band and their live performance, or you don't like the live performance ergo not the band. Granted my reply to you was a bit caustic, but as I pointed out to story it's perfectly reasonable to like a performance, but not the music and vice versa.

Is the drummer not their strongest link btw, or is it meant to sound like that?

I don't mind what I've heard of them at all really. Not all of it instantly grabs me, but despite being (what I think of as) quite lo-fi, seems like the type of stuff that would bear a few relistens to properly appreciate. But in every track the drummer just seems a bit off, and I'm not sure whether this is a stylistic thing or if it's just that he's twatted of his head and/or crap.

Who cares if the drummers off!!! That so doesn't matter.

hm i am pretty good at spotting off drummers and he's definitely not one..... i don't really know what you mean! i guess it must be a stylistic thing, cos he is a tight player

Yeah.... maybe I use appreciate in a broader sense than you do. I can appreciate the merits of something even if it has no real meaning or importance to me, even if I actively don't like it. Like I can't stand Morrissey, but I appreciate his talents and significance. I'm glad he exists, despite all my misgivings about him. But let's please not get into bloody semantics on top of everything else on this infernal thread!

I was at this gig, and while it certainly wasn't one of their best, it was still a good show. I was standing there trying to hear them as they have been described on here by the haterz. I tried to get to leaden derivative sub-Doors, all that, but for me they really are a really good interesting exciting new band. I've seen them a good few times, and listened to their studio stuff too. I'd agree that nothing comes close to the Dionystic buzz they generate during a good live set (Slide In last Saturday, for instance...), but I don't think it's only about the live show: I find their songs, lyrics, structure, arrangements all do it for me. I like sleazy and dark and sullen; I like sinister and basic rockanroll. I like how they've taken the old shapes and distorted them juuust enough to make them disturbing but still recognisable and familiar. I like how they do swamp and surf and garage and waltzes, and they do it cos they can't help it: it's all they know how to do. I like how it's pop and dance and at the same time also always pushing up against some outer door.

And yeah, I've been at plenty of live shows over the years when one person was saying "BEST SHOW EVAH!!" and the other person was saying "well what the fuck is this shit?"

Rockanroll is Tribal shock! Who knew!

Maybe the fact that FWF generate such strong and opposed views demonstrates that they are a proper RnR band after all?
