Yeah, think it was very much an alt-right thing to deliberately adopt innocuous things as codes in order to have plausible deniability and also to make antifascists look stupid for pointing them out, this was about the same time that they also started drinking milk as a symbol. So I wouldn't worry too much about your godson, someone doing the OK sign or wearing Fred Perry or drinking milk or even using the number 88 may well be perfectly innocent, but someone doing all of those things in combination is highly likely to be dodgy. And there's not much ambiguous about that hat.
