The abolition of slavery (Lincoln), was a fairly major Republican accomplishment.

The Republican Party was a more liberal party then. Its very different now from its original form. Heck, its unrecognizable from its form in 1960. Eisenhower built roads and other infrastructure like schools. You can't even get any of them to agree on that now.

BTW, one more accomplishment by the Lincoln administration was the establishment of land grant colleges. It, more than anything else probably laid out the future success of the country, by providing affordable education to more people. I don't see any of them supporting low-cost public education at the moment.

The Endangered Species Act was done in the Nixon administration with a Democratic Senate, although again, I doubt they'd support it today.

Nixon traded a pair of musk oxen for two giant pandas though. Was a big splash in my Weekly Reader back in the day.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans in the 19th century, and indeed into the 20th wasn't one of left vs right. It was more between centralised federal government having primacy (Republicans) and individual states holding the power (Democrats.)

I'm so old, I can remember when "Liberal Republican" was a thing - eg Illinois Senator Charles Percy.

Aye and:
* ending war in Vietnam
* Détente with China
* 'winning the cold war'

I hate the Republicans, but only slightly more than the Democrats (seeing the two slug it out is a bit like watching Chelsea play Man Utd but with even nastier consequences).

I've been watching a lot of his video and found a have more questions than when I started. First of all, who is this guy? He's linked to another video posting group that claims ties to anonymous. He's posting there as Justin King. Claims to be an anarchist, but the video where he explains it sounds more like a Libertarian than anything else. He seems to think corporations can take the slack from a lack of government, for instance, while ignoring the concept of mutual aid. It should also be mentioned that he spent some time in prison, which he is open about. He spent 22 months in prison for "visa fraud". His video explaining this makes him sound more like the A-Team than the mercenary he probably is or was. I'm not saying that his opinon is invalid. I'm saying "be careful".

I wasn't aware of who he is or what his politics is, someone I know showed me that video and I've only watched one other that he made (about Trump and Kavannah, and it's a good video). I assumed the guy was a left liberal like most people on youtube who come across as left-wing and I'm not sure the person who showed me the vid knows about his politics, especially as the person that I'm referring to can't stand right-wing 'libertarians' or 'anarcho-capitalists'. Anyway, thankyou for your advice and your digging regarding this guy.
