well in defense of myself let me emphasize the following in bold:

he's getting sympathy in the rightwing ecosystem, but this isn't about the rightwing ecosystem. like any good prosecutor garland won't want to act before being very sure that he can win the case, the "case" here being not a trial but a reasonable belief that something big is up, and it is, as trump has purloined documents that belong to the federal government. and it beggars belief that garland would have done this without informing biden ahead of time, so let's say that biden gave the green light, which is going to be imputed to him whether he did or not. THAT's what's important, that biden stuck a shiv into trump. it almost doesn't matter if nothing comes of it (trump, remember, likes to threaten to sue people all the time without actually doing it, and gets lots of love for doing so: "he fights".).

maybe the WH didn't know, maybe garland has biden's trust and knew he could act independently, maybe garland is doing his job and is not making this political but acted without consultation. but the important point is that the administration just treated trump like a schmuck as mid-terms come up and as the date for trump's announcement about 2024 comes up. the ultimate expression of this would be what what chandlerp wrote above which is correct: 1663. One gauge I use to measure how people feel about Trump is the "Trump flag index." I noticed there's a lot of Trump flags between my house and my hometown. I can count them on the way to see how popular he remains. My mother's neighbor flew a Trump flag until 1/6. On that day, he went out and took the flag down. Over the last two years, I can generally count about a dozen between here and there. Some of them have been replaced a couple of times with new flags. Recently, I've noticed that these flags are starting to disappear. Last trip I counted four. I went to a gun show last month and found that Trump flags were going for 1/2 price. I hope these are all signs that the right is nearly over Trump. I'm sure he'll be replaced with someone equally repugnant.
